Would you rather

Would you? Let me give you a scenario and tell me which you'd be more anxious in:

- Being told you will die when you're 60.
- Being told you will die in a car crash.
Not trying to be difficult. I think you are trying to make the 60 thing appealing. But it’s a hard one still. 70,80 90 years olds are bogey drivers so it’s still tempting to not know when. I can always never get in a car ever again after that news but then obviously my death would be from getting taking into an ambulance and crashing. Even without them things I’d grudgingly take the car crash news. It will be a very [Poor language removed] life being spazed out anyone goes over 5 miles an hour in a car I am in. A million panic attacks. But that feeling especially at 45,46,47 constantly been in a dark place thinking about The ‘electric chair’ everyday.

75-80 and I may take that.

Joke? If not, do tell.
Joke. I come for a long standing, law abiding family. My great, great grandad came to Liverpool from County Cork in the 1840's. He would be in his early 20's and was a cabinet maker. His son, my great Grandad was born in Liverpool and was a bookbinder with Rockcliffes Printers (who still operate in Liverpool).

Cork? Has the literal pseudo name ‘rebel county’.

I reckon your great grandad brang a few secrets to the grave to safe the family from any British backlash.

Sure you can do all that stuff now. Having that knowledge in your head won’t enhance the experience. You are going to die anyway at any point unknown to you. Is that not more reason to do them things. I defo don’t think we put them things off cause we don’t know when. Put maybe different for you as is for me so opinion granted.
If you were to find out you only had a few years left to live most people would spend those years differently. At the moment I work 5 days a week and will continue to do so until I'm 65 in preparation for a long retirement. As of today I have no idea if that will go to plan. Without knowing when I will die I have to make sure I am financially secure. If I knew I had 2 years to live I could spend my life savings on travelling and seeing the world safe in the knowledge that it won't matter when my savings run out.

I hear and they are positives. But the knowledge of knowing when to me is a burden that may be too much for me to enjoy the splurge.

I would have thought anyone would be more anxious knowing they basically can’t go in a car, near roads etc for the rest of their possibly short, possibly long life than living carefree for X number of years but maybe that’s just me.

Yeah it’s all speculation. Can only know if you actually got the news that you only have 2,5,10, 20 years and know how the reality of it is inside your head as you party and holiday like a good thing. To truly know. It’s all very bleak one way or the other.

Yes also It’s not a matter of anxiety. Anxiety would be knowing you will die in a car crash as you said and what I said in an earlier one. The other option of knowing when is the that other pesky one depression. A dark dark creeping slow burn depression that will only grow.

When my Dad became very ill he knew exactly when he was going to die... especially when I was pressing the pillow over his face. What? Looking after an elderly sick person takes its toll on you.

I'd rather not know either.

However, assuming I'm obliged to choose one. And assuming both the how and when are completely inevitable I'd choose when.

If you knew how, you'd spend your life trying to avoid those situations even knowing you couldn't. The only way you could try to avoid dying on a certain day would be to try to kill your self beforehand. That way you'd have the last laugh.
