1950's/60's. When someone clogged you, you could clog them back and not get sent off.
Just to give an example. Once playing a Yorkshire League game, centre-forward. Defender came in, sliding tackle, right foot knee high. Managed to avoid his studs and as my right foot returned to earth, I stamped heavily on his left ankle. I heard him whinging to the referee and the referee saying 'what do you expect when you tried to break his leg'. Those were the days. :D

In one way the 90’s not to bad money and could have a wild night out. Also managers accepted if you were fat and quailty and didn’t want to defend like Le Tiss. Robbie Fowler played in this era and seemed to make a decent business of the moe YB with houses. On the other hand if I was to be a top PL player it’s hard to argue with over 100k a week!

Certainly not today, too much media interference in your life, go out to a club and pull a bird next thing you know she's selling the story. Too much grief these days.
