Would you quit your job?

I changed my job six weeks ago despite all the uncertainties atm, had a nice cushy job in the public sector, but was facing the same dilemma as you regarding no progression, under appreciated etc. But it was one of the best decisions i made, i just knew in my heart it was the right thing to do.

It was a massive risk jumping from a fully secure job in the public sector to the private sector when people and businesses are in serious trouble, but fortune favours the brave. Its odd moving jobs now as i haven't met any of my new colleagues and declined an invitation to go into the office last week, because i still don't feel it's safe enough.

But if your gut is telling you to go for it, go for it

I think whatever my decision I know I have to take a new opportunity. Believe it or not I have tried to move elsewhere since last year and not a single job has even shortlisted following advertisment. Recent events obviously haven't helped in that front.

It's about value over money. I enjoy working with the staff I work with , in fact that's the one thing that would keep me there in this decision. It would make a whole big difference just to be able to move on to a better role within where I work. I'm well aware until we are running the joint that none of us really matter.

It's a big decision but I'm hoping there is a workaround , I am discussing possibly going part time for the future in the new venture with the option long term for me if I choose to make that jump.
Whatever you decide to do, best wishes.

Torn between two worlds at the minute and really not sure what to do.

One hand I work in a decent job that's a job for life. However trying to progress or even get away from where I am has proven to be impossible , even with all the answers and experience. I am massively under appreciated in what I do so the department would miss me quite a bit. However the day to day workings is something to look forward to , I enjoy who I work with and ideally it's a career even without the career aspect.

On the other I am being poached for a job working for a company . The job is completely different , as a writer online and other internetty stuff for the company. The person who wants me to do it has been asking me a while now and he will match my income. I'd be working from home, completely online and I'd enjoy the role more but then it's a massive risk to move from where I am now given I still have another 30 years of work at least. I'd lose a pension that's only a year old but there would be more money in the bank each month. I'd be self employed however which is where the risk comes into it.

So what would you do? Give up a job trapped in a department that massively underappreciated you but you enjoy doing or give it all up and risk a job that may not last 30 years but more money and independence and feel wanted by your employer?

Have no idea which one to do. If I take the job then I'll be fearful for the future one day. If I don't take the job I may regret it if I'm still trapped in the role I'm in years down the line.

For context , I basically built an entire clinic system not too long ago , around 2 months worth of work, not an easy task to do solo. My thanks from my superiors was to push me off the project , stop me getting any credit and ignored all my input. Whereas the new job would trust me in my abilities

So what would you do?
take the job, work from home, get a pet dog and enjoy the rest of your life being happy

Very easy to give advice when you don't have any investment in the outcome. I'd definitely wait this pandemic out before leaving a job. Things are going to get a lot worse.

Decision made.

I'm working from home at the moment and I've still got the fear of monday that started at 4am this morning. So I'm going to the end of the month and giving them my notice. Gives me 3 months to find anything else. Also frees me up from caring for that time.

Gotta make the escape stick this time!

Best of luck mate , hope it works out well for you.
If you are unhappy on your current job it's not going to change , so take the leap life is to short and works to long to be undervalued and unhappy .
I spent ten years in one job hated nearly every day of it , looking back I should have jibbed it when I had the chance but stuck with it as it was steady, only after I left ,did I realise it was so bad and a completel waste of time.
Only other time I got fed up with a job later in life , I just said I am off by xmas so dont bother me, looked around and had a few choices and plumped for my current job , its miles easier , better paid and a lot more time off, but I would still jib it if it did my head in over any long period of time

I've done the same kind of work for 17years and, one company aside, never enjoyed a single day of it. Sod 'em I've had enough. Worst case, I have to do a few temp jobs doing similar or do some shifts behind a bar. I've come to realise I dont care if our product is a bit cheaper thus making Amazon or BMW a few extra pennies... especially now I've been moved onto cardboard boxes.
