try very hard to forget everything force fed over the previous 8 months in time to start all over in september. scorchin!

Yeah, we've looked - been around a few 'estate agents' and looked online, only things in our price range are as far out as Lazio/Rome outskirts, Rome City gets you nothing really for less than €500k ?

The public transport seemed dirt cheap. Being out a bit shouldn't be that big of problem, if the links are good.

Transport isn't a problem, personally I'd prefer to buy something in an English speaking country whereas the wife has spent most of her Childhood in Italy so wants somewhere here.

I do love it here, don't get me wrong - but I know for a fact I'm going to get run over sooner or later.
 
The mad driver cliché is very real... We had a maniac driving us back to the airport....he giggles, turns full round at crazy mph and declares that he needs a Ferrari. Told him the last thing he needed was a feckin' Ferrari. Literally, the scariest car journey I've ever had. Got to say, I'm with your wife though .... Italy, it has to be.....

What scares me is the zebra crossings, if you don't step out, cars dont stop. You're effectively trusting them to come speeding towards you, and stop.

Also green lights for pedestrians doesn't mean cars can't go past?! Can be a red-light and they will still go through, gives me palpitations.

It is indeed a lottery. It's a gamble every time!!!!
 
Did the Scavi Tour today, its essentially crypts underneath the Basilica, where you can 'see' St. Peters remains. Very interesting and a once in a lifetime experience but, all you can actually see is half a mandible from about 5 metres away, behind bulletproof glass.
