This, a poor winner is one thing but it might be in a poor year, but to win against a classic is grim

Scorsese got a sympathy Oscar for The Departed, which isn’t even close to being his best film, so yeah, I’d be inclined to agree that merit doesn’t always come into it.

A literal shot for shot remake of an Asian movie wins best picture. That makes sense.

If you look back at the winners stretching back 40 years, you could argue most are undeserved. Very rarely does the best film win, it might be easier to say which films actually would you class as worthy winners.
