It was a barbaric waste of life. Sadly mankind is no nearer to being able to live without having to shoot at each other despite such potent reminders.

Of course the post-war situation was little better, leading as it did to the cold-war, the messed up partitioning of India/Pakistan and creating the state of Israel in the middle east.

But, on a much more positive note, Everton were Champions from 1939 till 1946. (y)

BTW maybe you shouldn't mention that in the homework...

Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but weren't there more losses in WWI? or am I thinking only in Europe?

I thought this too.

And there were no European football competitions till the fifties as far as I am aware. First official European Champions Cup was 1955/56 season (Real Madrid 4 Reims 3 in the final). So the wars didn't affect us entering!

Well spotted.

Perhaps it was that the wars had interupted our success then. I've definitely heard something that coincides with us and the war.:)
