in memoriam - 1961-2023
Brazil - Liverpool - a brooding sense of entitlement, a snidey attitude on the pitch and a shedload of help from the officials (including dodgy penalties) - heavily reliant on one player.

Germany - Man City - efficient, slightly boring - loaded with star players

Argentina - Chelsea - snidey team that plays for 1-0. Usually involves a high degree of controversy in their ranks and always keen to complain about injustices.

Honduras - Stoke City, low on skill, high on physicality

France - Arsenal - great to watch but usually found wanting when it really matters

Belgium - Spurs - the next great thing but always fall short

Chile - Everton - pleasantly surprising if ultimately failing

Russia - West Brom - incapable of beating anyone

Cameroon - Aston Villa - so disappointing

Uruguay - West Ham - ugly and nasty

Italy - Sunderland - fail often and arouse much passion.

United States - Cardiff - low on skill, top keeper and not much else

Holland - Man Utd (Ferguson) - a star striker and a winger who loves to go down easily (Young).

England - Newcastle - delusions of grandeur and no trophies for generations

Colombia - Southampton - great to watch but outwitted by the big boys

Portugal - Fulham - pretty to watch (sometimes), usually futile

Greece - Hull - boring as hell. Somehow win the odd games

Spain - QPR - full of aging stars going nowhere fast.

Mexico - Swansea - easy on the eye but never win anything important

Costa Rica - Palace - surprise packet who run and run and overachieve

South Korea - Norwich - underachievers.

Nice one, Dan...I'd go a little different:

Brazil - Man Utd. Record-breaking behemoth, always expect to win, but much weaker than they used to be. Don't seem to be able to play that lovely attacking football they used to.

Germany - Arsenal. Won loads in the past, and nearly always finish in the final 4, regardless of era. Play nice philosophy-led football but not winning trophies lately. This will be their year, tho'.

Argentina - Everton. Were amazing in the 80's. Massive history. Loved by their fans. Still always up there in the final 8 but not been top 2 in a long while. Steady improvement over previous years.

Spain - Chelsea. Absolutely dominated for a few years, but now seem aged and uninspired. Need a fresh philosophy to get them back to the top.

Italy - Liverpool. Known cheaters and not much respected as an entity, but they always seem to have a couple of world-class players and thus fluke a trophy every now and then. Hugely cocked up this year, mind.

France - Man City. Capable of playing great and winning stuff one year, then falling out and not being arsed the next.

Holland - Spurs. They play some nice togger, and are always thereabouts...but haven't won anything in yonks.

United States - Hull City. Only very recently seem to be playing with the big boys. They're just happy to be there, get massively praised even in defeat.

Uruguay - Aston Villa. At least we're not them.

England - Newcastle. Agree with Dan here! "delusions of grandeur and no trophies for generations"

Yep Doc - Brazil/Man U - lead by a player beloved by grannies up and down the country (presumably for entirely different reasons in each country).

NB - Brazil/Liverpool - "heavily reliant on one player"..... now no longer available.

Hull played some pretty decent footie last season. You could probably compare them to a good championship side.

The US was and always is Moyes Everton - everytime you are ready to sod them off they pull you back in. The US was similar to Palace under pulis.

Aye...there is that. I just feel uncomfortable in allocating the most successful international team in history to the RS.
I couldn't agree more with you and was toying with the idea of binning that one but the humour seemed right if not the whole thing. There is another fact of course "the old 5x" BS and, it would seem they've both had the coach painted in readiness for the 6th. I suspect both will now fall short!

And they both like breaking into stadiums, a good protest and wasting money so it isn't always about the football side of things.

True...there is the high cult factor surrounding both entities, and they both do have this sense of entitlement.

Everton = Argentina, tho'...Chile seems too small-fry for us.

Liverpool and Italians have been known not to mix very well like....
