I like tactics. I make no claim to know anything about them however.

I want to read all about the tactics of the World Cup teams. Not bothered about 'personalities'.

We all know that the standard of 'analysis' on most TV is banal ('so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.') Hence banalysis. This thread is intended to be the antidote (no guarantees!).

Post anything you see/read/think about WC tactics in here. I'll start with a great channel for this Tifo football:

Nothing wrong with a good corner.

European teams - fall over as much as possible.
South American teams - try to do tricky stuff.
Asian teams - do whatever it takes.
CONCAAF - lightweight South American.

Just get out there and play.
Preferably win.

Them's were my tactics.

At this stage in the tournament strategy arguably becomes more important than tactics.

England currently stands top of the group due to having less yellow cards. In all probability, we only need to draw tomorrows game with Belgium to win the group. If we do, awaiting us in our side of the draw are Uruguay, Portugal, France, Argentina, most likely Brazil and West Germany and, quite possibly, Colombia too.

The other side of the draw will include Russia, Spain, Croatia, Denmark, most likely Mexico and Switzerland, and possibly Senegal. We wouldn't be due to meet Croatia or Spain until the semi final.

Now I'm not saying that we should send the players out with the intention of losing the game as that would be silly. But we could rest our best players for the game and play a second string line up. Guarantee other nations would be doing the same when faced with the same scenario. Belgium included.

Wow ... Haven't Russia somehow managed to avoid all the world cup powerhouse teams.

What are the odds of that?:dodgy:

In fairness it would have looked completely different had Germany and Argentina both won their groups as expected.

But they would have known the score going into the final game against Uruguay. I suppose it depends on how far they expect to go. I'd have thought their sights would have been similar to us; i.e. quarter finals = decent world cup. I'm sure they'd rather have played Portugal in the last 16 rather than Spain.

Ha. What do I know. Germany out. Brazil to maybe come second in their group. Winning our group suddenly becomes the better option.:)
