There's an article in the guardian about this, blaming the fa for englands non seeding.

Basically it was the friendlies away at sweden and brazil that knocked england out of the seeds. If they had played no friendlies this year they'd be 4th in the world based on the results in qualifying.

Yeah, Slovenia and Norway were coasting on reputation a bit, neither were up to much. Mind the dutch group was much the same.

But they aren't going to win the world cup. The goal is the quarters. And that's easier if you can top your group, which is easier if you're seeded.

would be nice to avoid Germany, Spain and Brazil. And Argentina and Belgium. And obviously Italy and the Dutch. Oh ffs

The Dutch being unseeded could suck majorly because we could get a decent seeded team and then them as well. Be horrendous to get say brazil, holland and one of the African teams in a group!

I think it's unlikely that the dutch would end up in the same group as another european non seed, they like to split the non seeds by region as much as possible.

It's likely that pot 2 will be the remaining european teams and pot 3 and 4 the non seeded non europeans.
