My step dad lives and works over there and I've been many a time....
My mind set is yes what a beautiful place to visit but not a place to live....
But fill ya boots mate u mayb different but u want any advice just ask....

You won't get a job in Dubai as an electrician as all the labour and trade jobs are done by cheap Indians and Filipinos.

As for bar / hotel work that could be possible but again that is mostly taken by Filipinas, Chinese or cheap Eastern block girls.

Your best bet is to stay put and work all the ovvies you can get so you can fly out to meet the GF at Christmas time as I bet the school will only be giving her 1 airticket a year in the summer.

pretty much spot on, still easy to find various office roles though

and if you can't find a job THROUGH a recruitment agency, then you could always work FOR a recruitment agency

seems to be a route that gets a few people out there, just a thought

I am guessing the missus will be getting a tax free salary? I would have thought they sort out digs as well? If you can earn megabucks go for it so you can save if not i would swerve it. Plenty of better countries to go to where you would both find work in your professions!

Some bad teds living over there, the tax free wedge is only worth it if you've got a time bound plan to squirrel away some dosh to make a big difference to your life when you come back. I've seen a few just piss most of it away on the trendy (but totally fake) social scene over there. Hate the place tbh. Behind the marble & glass lies a hard line Muslim state who've built a folly in the desert..

Great summary. I lived in Singapore for a while and its very similar there. I had to LOL at the soft banker who recently had to leg it to Perth after $lagging off the poors when he had to use public transport whilst his porsche was in the garage... Worse crime than Leeson over there that...

Yea she will be on tax free salary and have her digs paid for

Just curious by why to those pieces of advice? Not too familiar with Dubai.

Living in Sin mate.

Imagine the hardliners views in the bible belt regarding premarital relations, and then imagine it being Law with strict punishments including imprisonment. The countries of this type may turn the odd blind eye to some of the western practices but there are others that remain a no no.

It's a conservative Muslim country. You've no doubt read all the horror stories in the various rags? Also, these are places where you get a permit to stay if you're working. When you aren't working, you're not living there anymore. Hence why an agency is advisable. Dubai is a good place to live and work as long as you aren't an absolute whopper.

I am working in KSA at the moment, which makes Dubai look positively liberal. But if you keep your head down, you'll find that all the things you're not supposed to do can be done as long as you don't advertise it. And unlike any other country I've worked in, I haven't met a single RS... I'm in this for the long haul!

absolutely right. don't advertise living in sin. Also the UAE is made up of different emirates with different rules and different views of what is 'acceptable'. Sharjah for example is a dry emirate, no booz even in hotels. Some stories of people buying alcohol and being purposely bumped in the car in Sharjah so that you need to pay off the driver of the other car so that police do not get involved.

Just need to play by the rules and take sensible precautions. No need to marry the bird, just wear rings !!
