Don't love what I'm seeing on Chinese social media re: Zhu Yi. The xenophobia the government over there has successfully managed to instill in the populace is worrisome. Standard authoritarian playbook, but it will make it harder for them to back down when relations eventually come to a flashpoint.

At least they're historically gender-neutral with respect to bashing athletes who struggle at the Games.

It's pretty much guaranteed that they'll be eavesdropping when they're there, but the concern is that it'll continue back here unless the device is binned.

I love winter olympics, you see some gut in a skin suit hurtling down an Icy Cliff face at 110KmH and sit there amazed

Only for the commentator to go " and that sort of technique is why this athlete will never trouble the medals"

It's probably time to bin off host venues. The need for so many specialized facilities that will never get used again is a drain. Pick a permanent summer and winter host and instead turn those venues into a sort of Mecca of the games.

I have no interest whatsoever in watching even a second of these Games, even though Canada usually does well in Winter Olympics. My dislike of the Chinese government is beyond description.

Good point. I was in Montreal about eight years ago and they were still paying off the debt from hosting the Olympics in ‘76.
Believe LA is still the only host to break-even—-think they utilized USC or UCLA for the Olympic village iirc
