Player Valuation: £60m
With a change of manager comes a change of tactics, different formations , different questions asked of players.

I am sure that RM is still assessing his players , but it is likely that players that were key under David Moyes may not be so crucial in the formations favoured by the new manager.I would have that a younger Phil Neville might have struggled a little more in this formation.

Certainly against Blackburn we passed the ball continuously all over the pitch over and back.In some ways it was a bit like the way Barcelona pass the ball and you could see how they would be happy to loan a young player to a passing team.

Strangely, I could see how Heitinga could flourish playing this football and I think that maybe we should put on hold the assumption that he is definitely leaving our club.

I think Duffy may struggle a bit as he is more of an old fashioned no nonsense defender rather than the modern footballing defender.

It makes me wonder how RM sees Baines and Fellaini ,how important would they be to his prefeered formation ?

I would be interested to hear peoples opinons about who the big winners and losers will be.

I don't see many losing as such, Duffy, for example, may have to skill-up a bit, and it may not work out, but imo he'll benefit from his work with Martinez as I perceive him as being more progressive than the last regime.
The only loser imo will sadly be Hibberto (and Howard if he doesn't rise to the challenge), as he's a relative waste from the half-way onwards, his virtues are out-and-out defending.

Hibbert's pretty poor passing on the floor too. Though personally I think he struggled in the old system too...as I think he'd struggle in any premier league team

Winners will be all those not given a proper chance by DM - Oviedo has looked good pre season and Barkley looks like he will be involved more.

Looks like you're having another dig at Moyes there. FFS I'm closing my account.

I know mate, what's with all these peeps saying stuff that may offend someone who took us to FOURTH in the league once upon a time? Shocking.

I don't see Anichebe's skill of being able to hold up the play as being worth nearly so much now. It's something he's very good at but if we're not going to chip the ball up front and centre anymore, it's wasted. We've seen him do it many times last season when it wasn't needed, backing into players with his massive frame. He clearly doesn't know how to do a whole lot else.

I see Naismith being somewhat of a winner. He needs a more central and attacking role with players around him and I think he will get that. Of course he looks poor when scrambling for loose balls but he's not a defender.

Martinez has been questioned, and duly IMO, over his decision to bring in several players from his relegated Wigan side. The players in question have been my biggest concern. Are they good enough? Are they going to start all the time? Are we going to go 3 at the back a la Wigan?

The fact is, they're familiar faces. His entourage. His 'boys'. Martinez needs some semblance of familiarity around him. As much as we need re-assurance, he needs familiarity. That familiarity came in the form of a Striker, a Centre Half and a Keeper. All of whom he knows and trusts.

The Striker

After Jelavic's performances last season, Anichebe's inconsistency, Moyes' apparent distrust of Vellios and Naismith's 'Naismithosity' (marked improvement on the weekend, mind!) there are arguments for bringing this Kone fella in. Whilst he's not the most prolific striker, he did find the onion bag more than all of our forwards last season.

The Centre-Half

Granted, Jagielka and Distin are a cracking CB pairing, so there's not much cause for concern there. But with Heitinga's perpetual 'titty lip', and Duffy's inexperience, there's a good argument that we need cover in that area. Not the best CB out there, but he does like to play it out from the back, and he is experienced.

The Keeper

Howard's been a constant in our side for so long now that it feels weird to think of another keeper. But, Mucha's 'worldy' performance against CIty aside, he's not had 'decent' competition for a long, long time. I'm not saying that I think we should bench Howard. Far from it, as I think that he's the superior of our keepers. But, this Robles fella looks alright. Slightly nervy, and likes to punch it out too much for my liking. But his and Howard's competition, I feel, could be a mutually beneficial one.

These 3 acquisitions, however for or against them you are, are just the familiarity Martinez has needed thus far. And whilst they are familiar to him, they should be something much more important than that. They ought to be his yard-sticks.

For all the pros and cons listed above, or anywhere else for that matter, I firmly believe that the 3 lads he's brought in from Wigan shouldn't be starting above any of our regular starting eleven from last season. There's an argument for Kone, I'll give you that. But with 45 mins each on the weekend, Jelavic was the one who netted twice. Just sayin'.

Any manager worth his salt ought to know that our strongest eleven should not feature prominently any of the players brought in thus far.

Now, I know that I've failed to mention Deulofeu thus far. But that's because he's supposed to be some sort of togger prodigy. If he really is 'Messi: The Sequel', then there isn't a side in the world that lad wouldn't improve. If Barca fans really are calling out for a forward 3 of Neymar, Messi and Deulofeu then we may well have one of the best talents to grace the game on our hands. Time will tell with regards to that one.

Winners: Everton and Evertonians

Losers: Anyone that plays us under the assumption that this the Everton of the last decade.

I hope Martinez noticed Heitinga ****ting out of a header around the hour mark against Blackburn. He's supposed to be a centreback but doesn't like to be physical. If he pulls that sort of stuff in a real game we'll concede, I don't mind him trying and losing headers, at least it might stop the attacking player from getting clean contact but to full on cower or duck just annoys the **** out of me.

I don't think Tony Hibbert was getting high enough up the pitch against Blackburn, he's not quick enough for our style IMO. I don't think he'll be first choice right back this season
