windows updates

my laptop did an automatic update, it has never ran so bad. things like when i close the lid and it goes on standby it doesnt restart when i open it, wel it sort of does but screen is blank and i have to take the battery off to restart it.
aren't the updates supposed to make it run better ?

how authentic is your copy of windows?
did it update fully?
have you played around with the registry?
any DLL errors?
how current is your BIOS?
any third party drivers?
any new hardware installed?

it was on the laptop when it came from the shop (new)
dont know about the other stuff tbh suits, it didnt act like this before the 'update' though, not saying it was running tip-top but not like this, it's like whenever it goes on standby it wont come back on, i'll get it sorted i was just wondering if anyone else had updated recently and started to have probs.

same problem with mine, i've got an advent laptop. windows already installed when i got it, updated it about 1 month ago and ever since i can't leave it on stanby. got it from pc world.

I have a naughty copy og XP Pro, and it updates perfectly well, just installed service pack 3 without any hitch.

Not that any of this helps.
