Windows 8 and touch screen pc's

Confused. The general consensus has been its too thick, too heavy, and has atrocious battery life. You're usually pretty good with the advice Dylan, but you've confused the life out of me with the Surface Pro recommendation. Or is there something I'm not aware of here

The Microsoft made one? As in the one they still haven't let the media have a proper play with and still keeping under wraps. All we really have right now is a spec list. Yes, it is a bit heavier than a standard tab, but it is aimed at being a fully functional laptop AND a fully functional tablet, rather than a hybrid a la Surface RT.

I have still seen nothing but positive buzz for it, but I don't check all the media channels, just my usuals (and they all still seem excited about it).

It was there for all to see at CES mate, and MS said it will have 4 hours of battery life a couple of months ago

Once I found out it wouldn't get any push functionality for e mail, and would simply go into hibernation, I lost all interest in it.

I wish they had invested more effort into surface RT. that for me was the direction they should have gone in for touch interfaces. In still not seeing the benefit of a tablet that had none of the positive attributes of a tablet, outside of form factor. Sure it had the horsepower of a laptop, but I'm still not understanding why you'd just not carry a laptop and a tablet.

Don't know if I'd fancy a touchscreen PC. Bit of a hit and miss. Prefer the mouse personally, although I ave an iPhone and iPad just reckon the PC would be easier with a mouse.

It's an ugly iMac with a pointless touch screen

You're better off buying an iMac and shoving Windows 8 on it. Touch screens on a desktop are pointless, you just won't bother using it. You'd have to leave your mouse or trackpad to touch the screen to select an app, when you could just do it in a fraction of the time by clicking the mouse or touchpad Not to mention you'll have a screen full of smudged finger marks.

This.

I understand the point of a touchscreen on a small device, but it just doesn't seem necessary on anything the size of a laptop or bigger.

Oh and the bit in bold is the equivalent of taking a long look at Jessica Ennis and deciding to graft Harry Redknapp's face on to her.

I have windows 8 laptop and it's awful; think it looks a bit tacky too. The new style menu is ridiculous, and it's quite slow too. At one point it would automatically restart automatically every 30 minutes and update itself. Avoid like the plague I'd say

This what I was thinking.
I use mine for online sales and would be able to have my right hand on the miouse and use left hand for the touchscreen - yes I can multi task.

Right,
I can get a very cheap new Zoostorm AMD A4 3300 500gb 4gb DDR3 with windows 7

Shall I?
I have read that windows 7 is very similar to 8 but without all the new crap?!

Any thoughts?
