ANyone know anything about these?

My PC is on it's arse and runs on XP.

I fancy a touch screen PC as I uss it for work and it may make life a bit easier.

However, have heard that windows 8 is sh1t. Is there any better alternatives?

Thanks in advance

If you can wait, you really want a Haswell device

The problem with Windows 8 Pc's at the moment are they're not very good tablets and not very good laptops. Bare in mind their in their infancy though, the next itineration will be better and Haswell will give a big boost in battery life. If you can hold off, then please do so

If you really want a windows device, and you can make do without the need for certain features (such as macro support), you might want to look at the Windows Surface RT. Good price, MS office bundled in with the device, and decentish battery life. You can pick them up at John Lewis, or with a decent discount on e bay.

If it was my money, I'd wait for Haswell. Or at least see what the new AMD chips with their 8w power consumption has to offer. Hold off till the summer, you won't regret it.

What about these:

Very good reviews but a bit pricey.

Don't want to be stuck with a crap operating system like Vista was. WIll windows 8 crash and burn and be superceded quickly?

It's an ugly iMac with a pointless touch screen

You're better off buying an iMac and shoving Windows 8 on it. Touch screens on a desktop are pointless, you just won't bother using it. You'd have to leave your mouse or trackpad to touch the screen to select an app, when you could just do it in a fraction of the time by clicking the mouse or touchpad Not to mention you'll have a screen full of smudged finger marks.

Out of interest, what do you do for work? And what applications do you use,

I have a touchscreen windows 8 laptop and thought it would be useless, but its great, the touchscreen is really useful, ad once you get the hang of windows 8 programmes and desktop programmes you will like it.

Essentially a tablet with access to desktop should it be needed.

Consider a Microsoft Surface Pro. The full Win 8 on it, but in tablet form. And it should be out now (if not, then soon)

Confused. The general consensus has been its too thick, too heavy, and has atrocious battery life. You're usually pretty good with the advice Dylan, but you've confused the life out of me with the Surface Pro recommendation. Or is there something I'm not aware of here
