I was thinking about this myself.

Not so much about the team but the players. Lahm, Neuer, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Muller, etc.

The Bayern/German core of this team have, much like xavi and iniesta a few years ago or beckenbauer, maier and muller in the 1970s, won just about everything that can be won in football. Both the world cup and the european cup.

So have they earned themselves a place among the best footballers ever?

In future conversations about the best ever fullbacks will we talk about lahm, will people be arguing Schweinsteiger vs Matthaus in the 2030s or comparing the latest german striker to the legendary thomas muller?

I'd pay a hell of a lot to watch the four german world cup winning teams play each other like. Some great players in there.

74 and 54 have the edge just because of the standard of the opposition, imo.

France 2016 should be fun. If this german team can use this to kick on there, we can start writing the eulogies.

They were somewhat fortunate this year that the spanish and italians who have been their bette noire of late never did anything. If they can't get their act together, you'd be hard pushed to think of anyone else in europe who can stop the germans.
