Previously an Event, the Hollywood action Blockbuster has been suffering from a trend of ye-gods-awfulness these last 10 years or so.
Tastes differ, sure, but the modern Blockbuster isn't offering cinema any quality these days for these indisputable reasons: over-reliance on unreal-looking CGI, bland characters, painful dialogue, horribly-generic orchestral music incessantly playing over everything, predictable story and shaky camera work to prevent the following of any action. The biggest problem might be the sheer lack of originality: reboots, sequels, remakes and lots of superhero yawnfests.
Will 2014 redeem the Hollywood Blockbuster?
On its way:
Godzilla (another one? Big potential yawnfest here)
Noah (it's gonna be very painful watching the message behind this one)
Exodus (another Bible story, but with Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver involved maybe it'll be good. But then again it's about the Jewish exodus...'can of worms'...)
Jack Ryan (the bloke who's playing the rebooted Kirk is now playing the rebooted Jack Ryan. It's surely gonna be cringeworthy)
Pompeii (this might be good, the Robert Harris novel is excellent. But apparently it's full of cartoony CGI...yaaaawnst)
Captain America: Winter Soldier (oh dear...)
Guardians of the Galaxy (more superhero stuff...)
Transformers: Age of Extinction (Jesus, and even Noah, wept)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (oh dear lords...save us from this, please!)
X-Men: Days of Future Past (haha!)
will 2014 redeem the Hollywood Blockbuster? Will it feck!
What say yous?
