Wide players

our current system, aptly named "Hoof" doesn't require anyone in wide area's. Long diagonals from centre back does the trick. I hear that Moyes wants Heskey and Holt to work in this system ... as mentioned they are pretty wide

Take it you didn't go the game. Cahill started deep alongside Gibson and Felli, Anichebe left wing and Donovan right; it was a clear 4-3-3, 20 minutes it wasn't working so he resorted back. Cahill going behind Saha and Donovan and Anichebe dropping deeper

Oh I watched it, but if that was an attempt at a 433 then...oh dear.

Completely the wrong personell to do that with Cahill, Saha, and Vic on the pitch.

Needs to be fluid and interchangeable up top

Change the formation to 433...wont happen like, but stops the wide player issue

It kinda did happen in the last match, although it appeared to be more of a 4-2-3-1 at times.

The gist of it was, though, that more players were getting forward and the wide players (Donovan and Anichebe) were allowed to wander in from the flanks.

Not saying they didn't, but it didn't work with Vic saha and cahill. Can't work with them.

Well, Drenthe can't play for all three of those guys.

It's a bit frustrating reading this board every week with people hemming and hawing that Moyes isn't trying new things (not directed at you) when he clearly is.

moyes needs to sort his head out and change personel with the likes of arteta,peanuts,billy,yakubu and beckford gone. we are not the same team as last year and our main hope for a playmaker is gibson nowdays

I'm talking in general, and not just the blackburn game. The blackburn game was brought up but I said it didnt work because of those 3 players. There's no point trying new things with players unable to pull it off. If it was going to work out better (for that game), Drenthe should've played over Saha/Vic (push Vic/Vellios/Cahill into the centre of the 3) because him and Donovan are quick and can change flanks, cut inside better, with more attacking threat.

Moyes if he tends to try something new, dips his toe into it rather than go for the plunge.

But in general, I've said it a while back 433 is workable with out squad as we dont have any wide players, or at least use them properly.
