Player Valuation: £1m
In the last 12 months peanut mikel and now billy have moved on, so we're dose this leave us with natural width, Gaye is the only one who is a natural wide player and I can't see him starting to many games, and we don't have any play makers, no wounder were struggling to score goals

Leighton will have to move up the wings a lot more while Moyes makes sure he's got cover when he's up there in those prominent attacking positions. This might also need to be the case for Hibbo too in certain situations. The lad can deliver a decent ball at times you know. Don't forget we also have Royston and Landon (couple of months) now who can offer us attacking width.

Landon is about 1/2 way through his loan already, he needs to make some impact and quickly, it amazes me that every other team seems to at least a couple of times per game be in acres of space going forward (at speed), whereas our build up is so slow that by the time we get near the box every defender and midfielder is back there. If you have players with pace then you should be releasing them to wreak havoc in attack, not putting crosses into crowded penalty areas constantly.

I've not seen a massive amount of Birmingham's games this season, but they've got a lad called Chris Burke (I think?) who plays out wide and looked reasonable - hard to say if he could do it in the prem, but I was impressed with him when they played their away game against the portuguese side in the Europa league. Could be worth a Moyes style gamble if he's available for a decent price.

Wide players today are different to those from 15 years ago. The likes of Ginola and Gillespie even Kancho would struggle more today because of the expectation to cover back and help their defender. With the amount of games played now along with international commitments there would be wingers running 2 marathons a week for 40 weeks a year minimum. Add in knocks and bumps and it just becomes unfeasible.
Solid wide players that can link up play and do their duty and hold the midfield are what the league sees in the main now.
Look at Spurs.
When it is attack time against poor full backs, they throw Lennon and Bale on. To back them up they have Pienaar, Krancjar and Livermore/Rose. Add in that their full backs are Ekotto (never a defender) and Walker (seems a find in his first full season) who also is best going forward.

That lot tried to get Joe Cole in to fix the left side, the left side he hadn't sorted at Chelsea. Chelsea haven't been all that since Duff/SWP/Robben were running their flanks. Man U have struggled to get Young in full time, Nani has gone off the boil and it is Valencia that is suddenly producing the goods. Nearly £60mill of player spending on them last three.
Arsenal play a striker on the left (Gervinho) and Walcott is hit and miss on the right.

He MUST play Coleman at right back, thus having Baines and Coleman bombing up the flanks.

2 defensive midfielders will then be fine to cover their runs (Gibson/Fellaini perhaps).....
