Why would anyone behave like this?

One thing that really puzzles me over the w/e is the numerous reports, both on the internet and through friends etc that both Bill Kenwright and Graeme Sharp were openly claiming Moutinho was on Merseyside and due to sign today.

Ignoring the substance and voracity of the claim for a moment, why would anyone behave in such a manner?

If the claim is true, why boast about it before completion, and if the claim is not true, well...... complete the question yourself!

Am I missing something here? At best the claims are premature and irresponsible, at worst they're akin to putting your own head into the noose.

Discussion appreciated, however there's no need for pages of abuse about BK as the internet is already stuffed with them.

Well its funny that you mention this because I thought it was rather strange that they had an article about JM posted on the OS which was weird. We never do that and why now? It has been really quiet since then...So either BK was trying to buy some credit from the supporters or he is just on a free fall.

He will loose a lot of credibility if any left if the JM deal does not go through.

I actually think his position will become very much under questions if nobody with any substance signs.

Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright has confirmed Joao Moutinho remains a top target for Everton.

The Blues boss, who also revealed he expects Andrew Johnson's move to Fulham to be completed within 24 hours, insists Everton's interest in the Portuguese midfielder has not waned.

The 21-year-old Portugal international has been widely linked with a move from Sporting Lisbon to Goodison.

Kenwright has confirmed there is substance in the speculation.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: "That is one of the ones you can believe in the papers. He is one of his (the manager's) major targets, but there are others who have not made the papers yet, thankfully.

Now, 4 weeks before the end of the window, he is perfectly justified in saying what he said (assuming there were resources available to fulfill the claim) and at worst he's buying himself more time, but I get back to the point of my original question, which is why would he behave in such a manner 72 hours before the window closed ?

Either what he said has substance, or he's dillusional - what justification can there be for claiming what he claimed?
