Why the negativity?

I think most are much more relaxed after getting points on the board, were in sixth with a game in hand on the teams above.

It's the games we've got now that will prove tricky, City, Liverpool, Chelsea & United in our next five games. We'll know more after that, but at least we go into it on the back of a couple of decent results.

I'm not even sure we'll do that badly in those. Realistically, there's four maybe five points from that lot to be had. I certainly dont see four defeats.

Things will balance out, though, and a 6th place finish looks beyond us given the strength of other squads and our deterioration in that respect.

If a positive 5-7 points is accrued in the next month + cup progress(yes, it's a big ask), I see a good season coming up, if we manage to be around top 7 around january and we don't have an injury crisis(surely we can avoid that for once?),bring Donovan home, top four is not IMPOSSIBLE(i'm not saying it's nailed on), there's talent in this squad, drenthe will be top class, Barkley is only going to improve, Vellios looks like he could be a great impact player whilst he's developing and is full of potential, Stracq impressed. Yes some things were lacking yesterday but I honestly think the performances against the top sides in the next month will be more on a parallel with the Villa performance. You also musn't forget we just ground out a great result when it was looking difficult against a resilient Wigan team with a flat atmosphere from the stands. I was feeling down in August but i'm looking at things differently now and I see a side that will compete with the best of them. The key is avoiding an injury crisis. there's just a different feeling this year that i can't put my finger on.

We're right where we should be tbh, maybe at least a draw against QPR would have been a fair result. Didn't deserve the 3 points against Blackburn, but did against Villa. Could've easily drawn y'day. We always step up our game a notch against the top sides, so here we go. I like this team, and agree with LTBlue...I can't put my finger on it, but we've played far from our best football considering the talent in the squad, small as it is. We've got new blood bedding in with the likes of Barkley, Vellios, and Straq which is good. Rodwell looked good y'day and Coleman is much better than the performance y'day. We have legitimate competition for places now, which can only be a good thing. Beyond Man U, Citeh, and Chelsea, there's not a lot between the rest of the pack IMO. The opportunity is there. Doesn't mean we'll take it, but I think we'll have something to play for come May.

I nearly agree with Dave. 7th or 8th looks likely. but I think 6th is a possibility.
The cups are obviously a bit of a lottery, and we'd be relying on a combination of over-achieving in a couple of games and other teams doing a similar thing against the "better" teams, but a cup final isn't out of the question.

I would think that City, RS, Chelski and Utd have more to fear from playing us than we do in playing them, and I would think we could get between 4 to 7 points out of that little lot........

Don't get carried away by the last result. Wigan are sh1te, and for a long time it looked like they would take something home from the match.

The next 3 games will provide a much sterner test of our mettle.

put it this way...were 7th on the same points as liverpool, but above them on 3+ goal difference with a game in hand...im happy. and it still is only the start of the season.

I reckon some people use negativity to sound clever, 'I know something you don't know' type of thing. You go to a game in the hope of seeing your team win, while nobody will agree with everything the manager or the club do, sucking the life out of them at every opportunity is like therapy for some. Although, to be fair, people care so much, sometimes they need an outlet for their frustration. Who knows, it's a mix, we all have our moments. That, and the negative comments stand out; nobody really notices the positive stuff.

We can hope for Champions League if we will gain at least 10 points from next 5 games. If now, then there is no chance for CL. Now, it's really soon to say if we will take the title or if we'll go down..

We have avery talented squad - the issue is motivation and confidence. If we can win the cup game midweek we will be flying into the big teams all month. what better motivates our team than playing the sky four!
Moyes has to be a little careful on Wednesday not to put out a weaker team and risk losing momentum.
