Why have we never had a movie/tv series on hastings/war of the roses/100 years war?

"world without end" was utter rubbish, especially the bit around what happened to Edward II (which is a genuinely interesting historical question, albeit of course none of the possible theories are that his own son chopped his head off in the middle of a siege).

the "hollow crown" wasnt, although it never quite got around to pointing out that Henry V is in no way deserving of his top king status.

I have never understood why there has never been a movie on 1066 with harold hadrada, harold godwine and william the conqueror fighting for the throne? Nor have I seen a tv series/movie telling the story of the war of the roses lancaster vs york or the 100years war between england and france. We have battlefields across the nation; towton, tewkesbury, mortimers cross, bosworth, barnet and so many more in the war of the roses yet nothing is taught.

All three periods are full of strong characters with depth, they tell stories of how england was as a nation and it provides an insight into why these three periods were so important in the shaping of our nation. without these periods we wouldn't be here today. the language we speak, the food we eat, how our soicety runs and is governed all comes because of these three events. yet we have nothing to show for it.

i just dont get why nothing has been made? are the projects to big? do minorities feel rejected as they didnt come here until after ww2? whats the reason?

1066: The Battle for Middle Earth was about the best drama-doc film on it. Think it was made about 2009.

There are loads of documentaries/miniseries on these subjects but I guess you mean a dramatised, Hollywood style version? It would be too difficult to name an antagonist and protagonist for Stamford Bridge/Hastings, I don't think it's very easy to make William into a sympathetic figure especially considering what he did later on. Maybe you could make Harold a tragic hero or something, but I dunno, he was king for like two weeks before it all kicked off. The Wars of the Roses would be difficult seeing as none of the participants that started it were around at the end of it and you know how moviemakers love these historical pieces to be character driven, in addition it would be pretty difficult to portray one side as the 'good' side.

The Hundred Years' war, is very tenuous name, it wasn't really anything like one war. There's no way you could make a decent movie on it that wasn't 20 hours long. I don't think you could make a decent movie on it at all.
