why did we sign andy johnson?

He scored 21 goals for palace, then about 15 for us in his first season before Moyes told him to chase corner flags.

I liked him. He was a poacher. Offers little outside the box though.

He was far from slow; had a good season for Palace before signing for us, was probably not the best when he had time to think about a chance. I would have the former AJ in our team now.

His confidence also took a major bashing from numerous angles; Moyes wanted more and more out of him (i.e. chasing into corner flags) therefore limiting his goalscoring opportunities and the french man at Arsenal accused him of being a diver, don't think he won a penalty after that comment after being hacked down on numerous occasions.

It was Mourinho who made those comments wasnt it?

Even way though yeah he was never the same after that, seemed scared to go into tackles and take people on.

He took a kicking though and was denied stonewall penos after that. Remember that Blackburn game when he got booted mid air in the box by samba and had a legitimate goal disallowed for offside when 3 defenders were in front of him.

And the Yak was banging em in didn't help

Yeah I remember it well.

He just lost that little bit of I dunno, guile I guess.

At first every time he got the ball he would run at people and we would get a chance of drawing a legit foul. As soon as he was called out on it (even though he was doing nothing wrong) he stopped doing it.

Shame really, he was great at first too.

Same could be asked as to why did we sign James Beattie ?..We ruined him for everyone else :(

I didn't mind Beats either at first. But when you look back at him, Aj, Yak and now Saha there seems that point where they just give up, something just goes missing.

He was honest enough player for me it would be nice to have him back pre "diver" comments, always thought it was a bit rich those comments tbh coming from who it did
