Why are people so disappointed about Arteta?

Player Valuation: £30m
Earlier this summer if LCAB or THT would of came along and said we are getting 10 million plus Royston Drenthe from Real Madrid for Arteta, most would of snatched the hand off the galacticos. As far as I'm concerned the club had a successful deadline day. Does anybody remember the spell where Arteta was out last season and it was Rodwell and Fellaini in the centre? People were desperate for Moyes to keep Arteta out the side because our form was taking a large upwards turn and we were playing excellently. Then Arteta comes back and we struggle a bit because he's a passenger. Now I know he looked rejuvenated out wide but Moyes would never of kept him there. Osman was our better creator and now we have Drenthe, the fast winger we craved for.

I am more positive about our season now the pre-deadline to be fair

I'm disappointed because... well...

I wrote this.

I honestly believed this was the year he could recapture his form and be massive for us again. I don't believe he's suddenly past it, although he's definitely lost a touch of pace and is injury prone.

I think the main factor though is the sentimental one. Arteta was a club icon. Close to a club legend. I can barely remember us without him. The last club icon to leave us like this was probably big Dunc, considering Rooney didn't make 1/10th of the impact on the field or off of it for us. It's not something we're used to, to be honest, as we have traditionally kept our best players. We sign no one, like, but we at least keep our best. Or did.

Timing mainly.

6.30 pm asks to go.
Now I reckon he knew way before then.... Full Family at his last game at Goodison, Takes pen at B/Burn.
I reckon Kenwrong also knew and requested it be a late one so that the money couldn't be spent. moyes prob in on it too, cos there has been no outcry.

I think it's because people remember how good Arteta "could" be. We kept hoping that this was the match that he finally pulled it together and got back that form he had a few years ago. Selling him on meant that the hope was definitely gone. Now we're afraid he's finally going to rediscover his ability with Arsenal instead of us.

Personally I think it was wishful thinking. For as much money as we were paying him, we just couldn't afford to keep running him out there every week, hoping for something that's not there. I'll certainly miss the guy but his contract was like a lead weight around the club's finances. Something had to be done.

Obviously I would have rather Moyes had some time to use that money but I'm sort of glad he wasn't running around like a chicken with its head cut off at the last minute. People make mistakes when they're under pressure. Now we at least have time to send the scouts out and look for the best player to buy with this money (or whatever the banks don't take).

Some people, especially a few on here are not happy unless they are moaning, or having a go at the board or having a go at other forum members, usually in groups harassing someone that is trying to be positive or showing a bit of optimism. Often a mixture of all four curmudgeonly traits. Sad really.

In a perfect world, it would have been nice to keep him and have him turn his form around. Practically, they're not losing much from last year's squad because he was so impotent. Realistically, Everton need money and he handed in a transfer request.

So I think it's disappointing, but don't subscribe to the "we're selling our best players" or we will be "worse off" because I just don't believe that to be the case with the past 18 months as proof.

Have a read of this - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/ever...into-the-club-and-supporters-100252-29354297/

People calling him greedy and that he's put the boot in are having a laugh!. He took a pay cut to go down there and at 29, knocking on 30, wanted a crack at champions league footy that we couldnt of gauruanteed him for the rest of his playing days probably!.

He's give us great service over the years, some great performances but post injury, he hasnt been the same, he hasnt been as influencial in games and to get £10m for him to help get the banks off our backs for now was a good deal, surely we all know the score and know were in debt and the banks are calling for there money back so we had to sell someone, kenwrong and Moyes both told us so recently so we knew what to of expected right?!.

One player doesnt make a team, yes he was good but when he was out injured we coped very well and the likes of Ossie shined for the team when out of the shadows of Mikky and expect the same again, i think we'll kick on and be ok, people suggesting will struggle or be in a religation fight are just stupid and clearly dont realise that we have plenty of good players in our team to still do reasonably well.

And another thing, i actually wish him well at Arsenal and think they will get more out of him than we would as there play suits is style, i think he'll do well.
