Why are British managers so poor tacticians?

UCL 2000, Man Utd vs Real Madrid. Man for man Man Utd aren't the team worse than Real at all. If Real had Redondo, we had Scholes. But Fergie ruined it. He played a traditional 4-4-2, with no protection for the defense and we ended up losing the tie 3-2 at OT despite drawing in Santiago Bernabeu 0-0. Vicente De Bosque was so astonished at what Fergie did, he termed it as "tactical anarchy".

UCL 2009 and 2011, again two tactical disasters against Pep Guardiola's Barcelona. Those were painful to watch.

So, it raises a question regarding British managers. Why are they tactically so naive? Even the greatest of all of them failed against the ones in Europe. Is it the lack of attention towards the details? I mean, Jose Mourinho or LVG puts a lot of attention on every detail of the pitch, do British managers lack that intensity? Is this lack of intensity cultural?
