Just checked that attendance. 36075. Only 20000 and 25000 officially for home games either side of it officially too!

Feel the pain of virtually any side down there because cannot forget our past traumas so can't say I prefer one or other particularly. I think it will be Hull though.

Had nothing against Bristol City or Coventry but it seemed v harsh on Sunderland that night. Jimmy hill's excuse was the police called it because so many delayed coming from Bristol.
Sunderland's support at Goodison was massive. Think crowd was announced as 35000 or so. Yeah right!

They used to do that a lot back then.

You would have been crushed in like a sardine in the Paddock or the Enclosure and the whole ground looked chocka.

Then they would announce an attendance of 34,539 or sommat and everyone woukd go "Eh?"

I think it was to defraud the tax man
