There is no way I'd disagree with you on the point of LA beating Everton Kay , I wouldn't back Everton at the moment to beat anyone that includes championship sides , but Everton as we know don't have a lot of money to spend and I've yet to see a player in the MLS that would be worth the gamble and every penny we spend is a gamble , if you could hit me with some names I could look out for , names that we have a chance of signing then maybe I'll change my view , I watch a few games on ESPN here , near the end of the season I got too see a fair few and nothing really stood out too me , when you said the league is on the same Level as the Championship you've sort of proved my point TBH because there aren't many players if any that I would be willing to spend money on, Tim Cahill's are every 20 year signings , 1.75 m from Milwall I think he cost , you won't see a better signing from the Championship ever again and if Everton want to improve we need even better than Tim Cahill now or it will be another era of mid table football we go , I think we need to be looking at Barcelona 3rd team and Real Madrid reserves and so on, big Champion's League clubs players who've fell out of favour , even someone like Jermaine Defo dare I say it
The teams I encourage you to watch are the ones that I would pick to be at the top of the Championship, not just the average:
LA, Real Salt Lake, Seattle, and even NY if they could get their internal act together. FC Dallas is playing better footy these days too. These teams tend to not play hoofball and keep the ball on the ground. Real Salt Lake went to the CCL finals at the beginning of the year. Seattle was one of the first teams to beat a Mexican team in Mexico. FC Dallas was the first team. LA had the best league record, won their CCL group, and is the Cup winner. Seattle and LA also are still in CCL play right now and made it out of the group stage. Other MLS fans could point out some other teams too, but as an LA fan, these are some of the teams that stuck out to me - teams that not only have good offense, but defense too. (aka, don't leak goals like a sieve) The Union (a team we played against in the pre-season) also have some decent creative youngsters.
As for players, since you want ones that are not "old", there are several that are up and comers that are expected to potentially feature, or have featured, for the US National Team:
Brek Shea (LW, FCD) - expected Europe bound within a couple of years. Training with Arsenal, and a member of the senior national team at age 21.
Tim Ream (CB, NY) - Early 20s, had a rough second season but continues to attract interest from EPL sides including West Brom (where he is currently on trial), Bolton and Arsenal (who tried to buy him last year).
Omar Gonzalez (CB, LA) - 23, Defender of the Year, expected Europe bound soon.
George John (CB, FCD) - Blackburn tried to acquire him this year, expected to be gone during the summer to Europe.
Andy Najar (midfielder, DCU) - 18, already training with top sides for the last two years (Honduran national)
Chris Pontius (FW/LW, DCU) - the guy who had a field day against us in pre-season play
Luis Gil (CM, Philly) - I think 16, looks to have huge creative talent in the middle of the park
Juan Agudelo (FW, NY) - 18, already featured for the senior national team
Teal Bunbury (FW, SKC) - 21, training in Europe
CJ Sapong (FW, SKC) - 22, Rookie of the Year
Bill Hamid (GK, DCU), Sean Johnson (GK, Chicago) - 20, 21, expected to be at Olympics, trained with Howard
Zach Loyd (RB, FCD) - on Jurgen's depth chart for national team, early 20s
Geoff Cameron (CB, Houston) - really came into being this year when permanently moved to CB
I'm sure there are more that other fans can give you, but those are the ones off the top of my head that have national team buzz. There are others (Darlington Nagbe, Perry Kitchen, etc) that are even more raw, but the ones above for the most part are already somewhat known entities (and thus, a little less risk). I'm sure I'm missing folks too. Note that I wouldn't say some of these guys could start for the team tomorrow, but they are worth scouting and some of them I think would be better than those out of favor players you mention, who have their own risk. These guys will work tremendously hard.
