I think a big part of football is about confidence/belief and players are more likely to get this off Ancelotti as he has won it all as a manager.

Taking past achievements out of the equation........

I look at Ancelotti to be the same management style as RK. Delegates a lot to coaches, stands on the side without showing too much emotion etc. I know he has won everything, but with much better squads of players than we have. And probably more cash than we have even now!

I think we need a manager with more aggression and more drive. Someone who the players can relate to, someone with a 'hard' reputation who wont take any crap! Someone who understands what it means to be Everton manager. Also, that us fans are satisfied seeing the team commited for 90 minutes. I personally can take a defeat if i know the team performed to a high level or battled for every ball.

Im not saying Rhino should be given the job, i dont think it would be fair and could ruin his development as a promising coach. I just think we need someone to inspire the team and drive them on to compete rather than someone to stand there and wait for things to sort themselves out. If that makes sense !? lol

They’re being paid millions to represent the club, if that doesn’t entice them to show some spirit on the pitch, then I doubt whoever we have shouting at them from the touchline will either.

We did Zat, unfortunately football was an easier time then. They’re mercenaries with egos who need to be managed correctly

Both these points are quite interesting, its about balancing the egos with endeavour from the players. You would expect Ancelotti to be a master of this but he failed at Bayern...

For all that you're trying to do here, which is admirable, unless you've been in that locker room you can't, and also have more than marginal knowledge of each of these two managers, you can't make any reasonable assertion one way or the other.

That's why the question is so interesting...two opposites in terms of managerial careers/suitability/experience etc and yet a lot of people would prefer Unsworth than a world class manager.

Why is that?

Would it be a case of him expecting too much of these players, they trying to hard and overplaying and it being counterproductive?

An inspirational figure who the players want to play for with tactical acumen.

That's what Unsworth seems to be for the young players since he's been u23 manager.

They're very different managers just like Everton and Real/PSG/Bayern are very different clubs. The latter clubs need an astute manager who can comfortably organize his players (without offending them like Moyes did at United) and you'll get results on a regular basis. I'm not sure Ancellotti improved any of these teams--he had bad performances too--but he got good results with the bad and some of these good results were appropriate to the level of team he managed.

But if that's all Ancellotti can do, Everton probably need a different sort of caretaker. This question isn't unlike the date/cliff/marry sort of question, and there's a reason certain people fit each description. I'm not sold (in either direction) on Ancellotti--I don't have enough information to decide--but it's not ridiculous to suggest it may be a very ill-fitting appointment.
