Player Valuation: £100m
This isn't a 'who do we want as manager' thread.

What I'm wondering is, what type of manager would players respond to more?

We've seen a fair few different managers come through the doors at Goodison in our lifetimes. All of them have very different personas.

So, the options as opposites for me would be, Carlo Ancelotti (whose won everything as a manager) and David Unsworth (a former player and current U23 manager).

Would the allure of a massive global name be more appealing to the players than someone who knows the club inside out and the support of everyone involved with the club?

Personally I'm not sure, ive read that Ancelotti watches but doesn't take part in training (like SAF?) and doesn't really sign or play many young players. Could this be because he can sign ready made players or he just cant be bothered to develop anyone but the ones who are top notch like Veratti or because his management style of being the friendly uncle type works better with established players?

Unsworth on the other hand would not be a global name and has made his reputation managing and directly coaching with the u23s. I think a lot of coaches, players and fans would find him approachable and he wouldn't just have the backing of everyone involved with the club but would find a huge amount of passion behind him from day 1.

I'd say because of this, the players would respect Unsworth more than another outsider like Ancelotti. Not only because he's an approachable chap, but because of the fear of disappointing him and with everyone backing him. I think they would respond massively and he would galvanise the team and club.

Am I massively wrong here? Would Ancelotti simply be a totem pole name signing with limited impact?

Massive respect for Unsie, but pro players have to acknowledge what Ancelotti has achieved and won. Has to be him.

Tells me im way off the mark here. I would say 100%carlo. But its 50 /50 at moment. Carlo.League titles. Champions leagues. Managing europes top clubs and players or an u23 manager.
It we had any chance to bringing in someone like carlo we need to grab it and show the world we actually mean business.

Unsworth who achieved little in his career

Or

Carlo Ancelotti who won everything as a player, then everything again as a manager. Played for the best clubs in Italy and then went into manage some of the biggest clubs, and players, in the world

Tough one

Depends

With Evertonians is Unsworth but with the wider game generally it’s Ancelotti due to what his achieved

Wired question though

Impossible to know...unsworth might be a complete knob for all we know

We have had an enormous amount of success with former players compared to mercenaries.

Surely Koeman would command respect as hes been a world class player, yes but the players fall out with him everywhere.
Ancelotti has a nice guy image but has only dealt with top stars, would this attitude mix when dealing with players who aren't at the very top?

I can see players being impressed and awestruck at first and listen intently to him...but for Everton itself perhaps the cauldron stirring with Unsworth in the chair would galvanise the staff, fans and then this would transmit to the players?
