Who would be in your World Cup squad?

Difficult at the moment Bruce mate.

A little disheartened after the last week!

I'll come back to this when my World Cup fever is taking over.

Mikey, he'll take 3 keepers, even though there's no point in taking 3 keepers.

You have to take 3 keepers:

Article 26.3 of Fifa's World Cup Regulations indeed states: "Each association will be required to provide Fifa with a final [squad] list of no more than 23 players (three of whom shall be goalkeepers).

Given that we made hard work of qualifying from what was the easiest group imaginable. We've just been beaten twice on home soil by 2 decent sides that will compete in next years competition & we barely created a chance against either.

Added to the fact that we'll no doubt face very high humidity & heat next summer (they're bound to stitch us up on that one!), which won't suit our game.

I think it's fair to say that we've got a snowball's chance in hell of winning next years WC. Therefore I'd make a bold decision. I'd look to do what the Germans did a few years ago, when they realised their ageing side was simply not good enough & they brought in youth, with an eye to the future, at the expense of the present.

I'd not take any player to Brazil, who wasn't likely to be still playing in the England side come the next comp in 2018. Therefore Gerrard, Lampard, Cole, Jags & maybe be even Baines, would not be on the plane.

I'd take the likes of Morrison, Barkley, Shaw, Chalobah, Ince, Stones, Sterling, Hughes & Zaha. If they achieved nothing in Brazil, it wouldn't really matter, as we're never going to achieve anything there anyway & these lads will have gained massive experience from the tournament, which would surely make them better prepared for 2018, when hopefully we might be in a better place to mount a half sensible challenge.

The difference is, the German press would applaud such forward thinking and would appreciate what the manager was trying to do

The English press would go mental

Would they though?

We've seen what the so called 'golden generation' were capable of over the last decade - the sum total of nothing......now as ageing players, are they going to do any better this time round in South America?

Only a fool keeps doing the same thing & expecting a different result.

We can all predict what'll happen next summer - the usual limp England exit from a tournament, plenty of huff & puff, but ultimately nowhere near good enough to take on the World's best. Why not be bold & look to the future?

Applaud the thinking, but you'd still need a bit of experience in there. Man Utd had lots of kids in their squad of 'fledglings' back in the day, but they still had the likes of Cantona to learn from. It's not just being out there in a big tournament that they need to learn, it's almost the approach it will take to win such a tournament.

After all, whilst there is much you can do during the tournament itself, there's even more that can be done by preparing properly as a footballer in general. In that sense, the likes of Lampard are good role models as he's got about as much out of his career as could ever be hoped for, and his approach to training is supposed to be exceptional.

The problem with England concentrating on youth now and taking them with the hope of looking to the future and forgoing this World Cup is two-fold:
1. A poor showing can have real issues for the players' developments.
2. There isn't a basis on which to concentrate the young players around. They haven't got a style that they now need to develop in a major tournament - it would be putting a group of players who know little about each other onto the biggest stage in the world. This isn't like Germany or Spain where they had a grand plan for the future and embraced it.

Concentrating on youth would be good if they knew what it was for.

Because our press are knee jerk idiots
