Who is/was the best header of a ball in an Everton shirt since Joe Royle?

Who in your opinion was Everton's greatest header (Royle onwards)?

I don't think I can answer this question without feeling disloyal to the boys I don't vote for.

:(

I will rule out Cahill on the grounds that whilst he was a great header, I feel the other nominees could head a ball with greater power.

But simply because he is not only my favourite ever Everton player but also the player whom most reminds me of my carefree, pre marriage and children prime, I have to go for.......Big Bob :celebrate:

For me, in the late 90's Duncan. It depends how you mean by head the ball, ie how accurately they headed it or how well they attacked it. Ferguson for a period under Royle and Kendall was a terrifying prospect and attacked the ball aggressively. Some of the headers he scored, against United & Liverpool at home were as good as you'll ever see. There was also one away at Arsenal used for MOTD and you see the corner come in, it goes over a jumping Adams, Bould, Seaman and out of the blue you see Ferguson meet it about 2 foot above them and head it in. Astonishing really.

From my time watching Everton I'd also say Gary Speed deserves to be on that list. Not the best but he was also very good in the air and is worthy of a mention.

Wow! Tough choice. Great voting options.I love Bob Latchford on every level- even forgave him for the curly perm. Great header of the ball. Andy Gray was fearless. Feel a bit disloyal to the rest of them for not mentioning them but my favourite is Joe Royle. For no specific reason really but great player, local lad, still doing his bit for Everton. I've gone for the sentimental option.:)

Great responses to the thread, thank you - Paul Rideout hasn't been mentioned, but he was a fine header of the ball.

Will do more of these "best of" type threads, some really interesting contributions.
