I had an argument on here ages ago about how multicultural England actually is, some people were arguing that only 46% of the country was white british these days, I was arguing that it was more like 83% as that's the figures in all the government censuses and surveys.

The counterpoint to that was the sort of people who don't fill in censuses or answer surveys are less likely to be white british than the sort of people who do. So it's probably impossible to get an exact figure with adults.

Fortunately children all go to schools and you can survey them pretty accurately so here's a map of school data.

The whitest part of the country is Durham at 97.4% white. The least white is Tower Hamlets, where only 15.1% of children are white.

So basically anyone who's moved to Durham recently is probably a massive racist who is running away from blacks.

Or Durham is so awful even they do not want to go there!!!!!!!

Anyone thinking Merseyside is an employment wasteland decimated by Thatcher should try going to Durham. Off the top of my head the population has probably declined by 15% since the last pit closed. The villages are sad places with no kids in them as anyone with anything about them has moved away. My Ma-in-law lives in Easington Colliery and it is like a geriatric, post apocalyptic landscape. 70% of the shops boarded up, 90% of the pubs/clubs closed. Only growth industry is old folks homes and they can't afford to employ enough staff as there aren't enough illegal immigrants to do the job for £3 an hour

% of white british population is going to be markedly different from % of white british schoolchildren population.

I'd be interested to see a breakdown of state pension claimants vs schoolchildren

I moved to durham a few years back, hence the joking comment about it.

I bought a house, nice house, good condition, two bedroomss, big garden for 60k. I was amazed by that, from previously living in Runcorn and Liverpool and being born in Portsmouth that was like bargain of the century for me.

It's worth 40k now.

Only county in the entire country where houses are cheaper now then 10 years ago. Nobody is buying the damned things because nobody has a job at all.

A few years ago they were selling entire streets of colliery houses in Easington for £30k. That is 22 houses for £30k. Not derelict either.

Most were bought by absentee landlords originating from the sub-continent to shove benefit claimants into.

SOme of these places are trying so hard it is heartbreaking. We regularly go to Seaham and the efforts the local council is putting in there put Cameron's 'Big Society' to shame.

The area of East Durham is so naturally beautiful they should clear out al of the habitation and make it another national park

Yeah, I mean obviously the older the generation the whiter they are, on the whole.

And since we're a relatively aging population, I think for six years we've had more oaps than school children in this country, these figures are far from representive of the entire population.

And on the flip side in County Durham there are a lot of non whites who study at Durham Unviersity and live in the area but didn't go to primary school here.

But I think children are a useful demographic because that's tomorrow's citizens. And it does show just how different the cities are in demographics to the more rural areas.

Like Manchester, Birmingham, London, Sheffield etc all have more non white children than white children but the rural areas are all 90% + white. That's pretty interesting, to me.

And explains why people having conversations about immigrants often seem to be talking about a completely different country to the one I live in.

Fortunately it's a lot cheaper to get drunk up here, so you barely notice the corpses in the street and burned down buildings that much.
I shall have to come and see for myself one day, BTW in my family tree many of my ancestors used the Auckland main church.
