After his dominant display against utd in the attacking midfield (Cahill role) would you like to see Fellaini playing there week in week out or like me do you prefer him further back??

Personally would like him used next to Gibson given the freedom to play box to box...

What's everyone else's preference??

More of a in general question mate. Obviousley taking injurys out of the equasion and the fact no doubt certain tactics could determine his starting possistion at times...

*there's always one*

No, jarty is right, it depends on who we are playing and who is unavailable. Versus the top teams, he suits up top, versus the lower teams, Osman has more skill to break down defences.

Would be a shame if he wasnt allowed to develop into one of the best centre mids in the world, but as Jarty said, there a case depending on opposition to play him higher up, for me it is more of case of him being such a good footballer that he can play the AM role, rather than it being his best position

Yeah I see your point and he has proved himself in that ACM role but I just feel as a box to box type he can do what he does all day long whilst still getting up top to do it there also. My worry with him maybe playing more and more as an out and out ACM is that he will just be marked out of the game and come ineffective. Surely teams will pick up on it and create there tactics around him playing up there??

Yep definitely, at some point it'll happen I guess, and that's why his versatility is such a key, keeping him in different positions will keep the opposition on their toes and allow him to further develop his game. Like someone else said, he could play right back and dominate it, he's a beast.

Generally prefer him alongside Gibbo, but I think his adaptability can be used to our advantage, he can do a different job against different teams as need requires.

Look at our current squad. The conjecture on here is that several players can play the Cahill role - no doubt part of the reason we were prepared to sell him. However, who else can play alongside Gibson, *week after week*, with true consistency and impact? Felli will play there for most of the season, while Osman, Naismith, Mirallas, Pienaar, Barkley and Donovan will all feature as attacking centre mid during the season.

If we experiment with a 4-4-2 or god forbid a 4-3-3 at any point, Felliani will only play CM.

Moyes played him in the hole on monday specifically to exploit a tactical weakness United could do nothing to avoid. Vidic can't mark two people.

If we can get one more midfielder who can pair up with Gibson, I'd like to see Fellaini play off the striker. If not, Fellaini and gibson in midfield, and Naismith/Mirallas/Barkley/Osman etc. off the striker.

I'm hoping Moyes will decide where to play him depending on our opposition, i.e. a good team like Utd have him up front to cause there defence problems with his presence and aerial threat, then against weaker opposition such as Villa this weekend, back into holding mid and let one of Ossie, Naismith or Mirallas run riot in behind Jelavic.

He played him there for most of our run-in last season as well, and then gave an interview in the summer saying he sees him as a possible long term Cahill replacement.

I don't particularly mind where he plays. He's ace everywhere. I'd like to see him off the striker against the RS though so he can do unto them as he did unto United.

Also - I'm skeptical that box-to-box midfielders really exist. He'll always be under orders either to go or stay.

This. Away to Wolves a few seasons ago Osman tore them a new one in attacking mid behind Beckford. Fellaini is our wild card against the big teams who we aren't expected to get a result against. Our results against them largely hinge on him.
