So where to now? It's another disappointing season with an underwhelming Everton plodding through and hoping for another second half revival. One things for sure, we won't be seeing European football for quite some time.
There's been a huge backdrop to the season about the financial situation that the club is in, and fair enough it does need need improvement and fast. There has been far less fingers pointing at how the team is going out and playing football every week, which is really what's it's all about, isn't it?
Moyes has been good for Everton and Everton have been good for Moyes. That doesn't mean that he should be immune from criticism or questioning of how he performs his role. There's just too many things than wrankle this season and have started having me question if he is the right man to move forward with us.
The faith in players who are out of form is one thing, for instance why persist with Cahill for this long without benching him? He clearly isn't firing and sixteen goals in fifteen games with not a single one for Cahill shows this. Same for Neville, he shouldn't have started that game today and most certainly should not have finished it. Why are we setting up with two defensive minded midfielders against (with all due respect to Norwich) one of the most average teams of players I've seen play in a top flight Goodison game?
The subs are frustrating as there's an element of OCD about it, with a seeming aversion to changes before the sixty minute mark no matter how dull the performance. Take for instance today, is it really gonna make a difference changing one striker for another in the 89th minute? Why not change it earlier and give it a chance. Stoke Manager Tony Pullis pulled off Jonathan Woodgate after less than half an hour today as he was having a tough time against the Wolves centre forwards. Stoke did them proceed to win the game, not just because of this decision mind, but you get the picture.
One area Moyes has done well in has been transfers, I'm currently questioning the wisdom of letting Vaughan, Yakubu & Beckford go this year and replacing them with an Argentinian forward who doesn't look anywhere near suited to English football.
Drenthe came on changed the game, he willingly ran directly at the average Norwich defence and caused them all sorts of problems. Might he have warranted a start? What about basic things such as focusing on the opposition's weakeness. Kyle Naughton got booked today after ten minutes. Did he trouble him thereafter, I mean really?
Throughout this we're treated to an ashen faced David Moyes speaking to the media about the difficulties he encounters due to the financial restrictions in his role and how hard it is to compete. Correct me if I'm wrong but we've got a squad full of internationals there to work with. It's not quite a Mike Walker or Walter Smith squad yet, so get them out there going after teams, grabbing them by the throat instead of predictable prudence in our approach.
It's probably another post match flounce to be honest, but thought I'd put it into a thread.
