where to go before match?

Me and my old man just arrived in Liverpool from Sweden for our first game at Goodison Park. I am a long-time reader (occasional poster) here on Toffeeweb and hope that someone here could give some tips for where to go and have some beer before the game. Not too rowdy a place since my old man is a senior.

Really looking forward to this!

PS:Any general tips on what too see and look out fo/be careful of in Liverpool are of course welcome.

Go the Royal Oak, good atmosphere, its close to the ground as well.

Leigh Arms, Barlow Lane. Cheap ale, good atmosphere. Harlech, County Road. Royal Oak, junction of County Road and Spellow Lane.

....very good art galleries, libraries and museums. Throw in a couple of cathedrals and the pubs aren't bad as well.

I hated myself for blinking.

Yeah I usually go there. Although last season when we played Chelsea me and my mate ended up in a section of Chelsea fans and they were all throwing celery.

I normally go to The Merton in Bootle. Don't have to queue up for 15 minutes to get a pint, and if you know where you are and where you're going, then it's just a short trip up Balliol Rd, Southport Rd and then Carisbrooke Rd to get to Spellow Lane.

Probably not great advice for a Swede like, but hey ho.
