The predictions for the 2013-14 season in late August probably read pretty similar to this thread.

We'll all know nothing very little until we've finished our transfer business. We could still keep all our big names and spend another £20m+ on ace players this window for all anyone on here knows.

Positives for us are that 5th, 6th, 7th and West Ham are all in the Europa League this year. If we do good business between now and August, we could crack the top 6.

If we are obliterated by injuries again and/or get our business wrong, we could be 9th or lower. Big few weeks for Martinez.

Just back from holiday and reading much of the downbeat comments about lack of signings, poor form of Kone, Nais etc, far too little optimism etc and the postman delivered my new ST. Can't help thinking we so badly need to beat Watford and comfortably on Saturday as the next 8-9 games look horrendous.

I said it early on in the close season, that we'd know by the end of September if El Bob had learned anything/much from last season and right now, I suspect he is privately feeling some pressure already... unless he has two or three quality signings to complete and quickly, cos it sounds like we need 'em much sooner rather than later.

I want Bobby 1st season but I have this unshakable feeling that the board have decided to plan for contingency's (incl of changing manager this season if required) and the players will play in fits and starts - which all adds up to mid table mediocrity or a gradual slide of form ending in a collapse.

I reckon mid table or worse with a change of manager within 3 months.
Really hope that it's Martinez's first season all over again, But I can't see it sadly.
He's left himself open by not getting the strength in before the season kicks off, Especially a Striker, Whether that's his fault or the boards is irrelevant,
There will only be one person carrying the can.

No more than mid table sadly,I haven't got much hope in our manager, its pretty obvious he isn't going to change his slow style of play which bore me to tears last season,I think he'll do well to last to christmas to be fair, hope I'm totally wrong as you never know.

I don't think so. I think the players are fully behind Bobby. They started really well against Villarreal but were just undone by a corner which was almost their first attack and then Mirallas' injury. After that you could see the confidence dropping.

He needs new signings because we don't have the players that can create chances and because we aren't creating any chances eventually that has an effect on the rest of the team because they know if the other team score it will be really hard to get back.

Will he get them? Who knows although he seemed to indicate in his interview that he was beginning to get desparate to get them. Let's hope the board are backing him.
