I mentioned on the Doucoure thread the PL is a closed shop now - you know which 4 teams will be finishing top 4 - 9 out of every 10 seasons and which 2-3 sides will be winning the title / domestic cups every year bar a fluke every decade or so like Leicester, Wigan etc.
Clubs like Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace have no genuine ups or downs these days - they are too good to go down and too crap to win somethingor finish top 4.
For me football is about ups and downs (before Sky ruined it making suriving in the PL seen as a success) finishing in europe potentially one year then fighting relegation the next whilst having a semi final date booked in at wembley in the FA Cup and even if you went down that year the downs get replaced by the ups of boss new away days and fighting to win the championship / play offs and coming back up.
Our "ups" are beating a top 6 side to guarantee 10th in the table and a pat on the back from Jeff Stelling on Soccer Saturday and our "downs" are getting a tonking in the derby at anfield - none of which you'll be telling your grandkids about in 20-30 years time.
Outside of Everton I watch more championship / League 1 matches than I do PL / Champions League as its all a fix - bent refs, VAR, FFP keeping the cabal clubs safe, clubs owned by entire oil states. Throw in the ESL that will happen at some point furthering the gap even more I couldn't care less if we weren't involved in the PL.
