When can we expect the keepers to be ready for the first team?

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
It's well known that keepers mature later than outfield players, and the PL is littered with the likes of Carson and Foster that havn't gained first team football at their parents clubs until well into their 20's.

We obviously have several young keepers at the club, what do you think we will do with them and when do we expect to see them challenging for first team action (if ever)?

I think very few keepers are ready to step up before they are 25. Unless they are exceptional. Its a strange one.

I think Cassilas is the only keeper I know that has gone from youth straight into the side. 19 wasn't he?

4 years.

I dunno, but what about the 9mill keeper Sunderland wasted money on, Craig Gordon is it? Isn't he a young 'un

Yeah he is, that raised some eyebrows. But most of them don't get a look in because the cycle for keepers is longer, some play past 35, and still get Internationals.

You're right, ghost, but Buffon step up sooner than Casillas: he was 17 in a Parma vs Milan... oh GOD, what an impressive display his first... he saved the fly pass around him too! (and what a keeper he is?!)

your right about the longevity of keepers, i can remember we played coventry and the combined age of our two keepers was nearly 90!!!
southall and ogrizavic
