And there's the difference between you and me , mate >I've never hated them .Got reds in the family .Used to play in Blues v reds games at School ..I was brought up with them . They were my mates . Met up after Derby games and had a laugh, whatever the result .You obviously come from somewhere other than Liverpool!
What an odd and very wrong guess!I am from Maghull mate, dad from Bootle. Did the blues vs reds thing of course....Best mate at Maricourt a red, made Mondays interesting! Well done on your ecumenical attitude, I don't share it particularly since apart from the best mate I refer to the other non-match going glory hunting crowd were pretty insufferable. Glad you met a more fun and maybe fair minded bunch than I did.

Maghull's not really Liverpool though is it ....Outskirts Tory territory !;)

I was brought up in Huyton.......Mum from Bootle end of Scotland road and dad from the City end !
Brilliant mate, I think Maghull was originally in the same constituency as Huyton and had Labour MPs until kicked into Crosby!!! My mum taught at St Aloysius in Huyton for a few years, early/mid 70s.

Not liked in our house mate!!!But each to his own. He was the architect of the revival of our hated rivals so no Christmas cards from my family of Blues!! It was certainly a very warm welcome overall although those on terraces were obviously stood up already!!
And being one of the official big 5 did not prevent numerous soft performances in cups and league in the era being discussed, Millwall, Fulham, the league games in the OP such as Carlisle but also Luton who also went down that season. We lost third round of FA cup to Sheff Utd in 1970 who were second division at the time, numerous league cup struggles hence never having won it even with cracking sides. Even our best teams have lacked a certain ruthlessness at times in my opinion.
You can add the cup finals 1968 and 1985 if you're talking ruthlessness too Allez!!
