The tale of this Grimsby fan, ejected by 6 stewards for the heinous crime of bringing an over-sized inflatable football into the ground got me thinking. http://terracelifenews.com/grimsby-fan-receives-heavy-handed-ejection-for-inflatable-football-fun/

What's your worst experience of over-zealous stewarding that you've experienced following Everton? For me, Man Utd stewards (or rather, the private firm of bouncers they use) are pretty bad. Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle are up there too. The ones in Lille were pretty bad too.

I saw something very similar happen at Leicester 10 years ago. I used to go to a few Wigan games when I was younger, and went to quite a few in their last promotion season. Played Leicester away late in the season, driving seat for promotion, so away end was pretty full and jovial, loads of inflatables being chucked about. No problems at all, and then a football like that one fell onto the walkway at the front of the away end. So a lad on the front way stood up to retrieve it and get it going again. Cue about 10 robocops in orange jackets steaming out of the little alcove in the corner and piling into this fella and hauling him out kicking and screaming. The regular stewards started throwing their weight around then and chucking people out for standing up. I was on an aisle seat and near got knocked over by about 4 stewards hauling a fella down from the back of the stand. Never seen anything like that day in this country. Not from stewards anyway. That year they had riot police at Old Trafford because Liverpool fans had trashed some toilets was something else. Never been more intimidated at a game in this country...says a lot it was the police I felt intimidated by, rather than any opposition fans...

I was watching England vs Italy at Elland Road on a cold Spring evening in 2002, and one particular steward was buzzing around our end going ballistic at anyone he saw standing up. Moments later a hurled meat & potato pie slapped him square in the mushkie. Superb shot considering the distance. He just stood there open-mouthed with steam emanating from his neck and face with hundreds of people (including other stewards) wetting themselves laughing. England lost 2-1.

Man Utd and Newcastle. Over zealous bellends in high vis jackets. Appalling use of force that wouldn't be tolerated in any other arena for any other occasion. Football fans though ain't it, fair game to the uniformed bellends to wreak havoc upon.

In my opinion, by far the worst and most aggressive in-stadium stewarding is Old Trafford. It is simply appalling the way they operate as they seem intent on antagonising the visiting supporters and my mates who are West Brom fans tel me it's exactly the same for them when they go to OT too.

Utd fans despise those stewards at OT, at 1 of our games there just after started using them the Utd fans were kicking off with them all over the ground, a mate of mine who goes 'everywhere' with them (incl. Brazil for that comp when they didnt enter FA Cup) said they go around taking seat numbers for standing with letters arriving threatening suspension of season tickets, then next thing they want them all leaping around for a euro cup tie.
The day you talk of when the stewards were bowled down the steps & then later the riot police as well he was texting me from the Stretford End with "get your lot into those Bast...s" & said they were all made up to see hi-vis jackets being chased out, said Utd fans were all giving it "get into 'em"... meaning for our end to get into the stewards.

Newcastle away fa cup 1999

Grown men manually pushed back into their seats when stood up,physically removed from their seat and the stadium for standing up,children roughed up,abusive language used to all ages and genders with the police watching on,a disgrace that would cause uproar in this day and age

I've hated Newcastle FC and their fans ever since and treat them accordingly and will do to my dying day

cant Help but laugh at how desperate he is to keep hold of the ball

I went with my mate to watch his team, Macclesfield, play at Southport last year. The steward at the segregation point was telling the Mac fans what to sing to provoke a response from the home fans.

Made me laugh, probably not very responsible though.

Lille away by far, one of the worst away trips in the history of the club for how that entire city treated us as supporters. Forgetting all the unprovoked tear-gassing and assaults for a minute, the stewards in their stadium treated US like criminals. Penned us in and wouldn't let us leave for ages, well after everyone else had gone. All they kept doing was giving us horrible, sarcastic smiles when people we're getting annoyed and worried that they could miss their coaches.

Horrible b*stards, that entire experience has made me develop a hatred of French people but of Lille in particular. If they went bankrupt and folded I'd raise a glass.
