What's the Opinion of Oviedo getting more time on the pitch, but as a Left winger?

Just wanted to put the idea there for you all, Would this be a bad option at all? He, like Baines, seems to like to push up the pitch & overlap, and as someone who is trained in the LB spot, could achieve this quite well, IMO, would just have to spend some time training with the coaches in a much more aggressive position.
Certainly an option to consider if we don't see Pienaar returning any time soon.

Personally, I'm not convinced. I think he can do a job there, but he's a natural at full back bombing forward, but not so good with his back to goal. Bit like Coleman in that respect. As a stop-gap, and someone who can step in when injuries rule out more natural wide men, fine. But we need natural attacking flair in that area really.

Mind you, I hope he gets over his hamstring injury soon, I love the lad and want to see him fighting for a place in the team, even if that's not in his natural position.

Don't think Martinez rates him for some reason, can see him getting sold due to the emergence of Grabutt. From a financial point of view Garbutt is going to be worth much more to the club in the long term due to his age and the fact that he is English and home grown. All that remains is to get Garbutt to sign a new contract and I think we may see Oviedo go in the Summer. I hope not as I think he's a cracking player when fit, but I think money may talk in the end.

Alot of profiles have him as left back, left mid, left wing & he's quoted as saying last season that he's even happy to play right wing.
I think attacking is something he's done through out his career but more with a turn of pace than the way baines does it i.e. from Pienaar backheel drag type things overlapping.

I reckon it's where he wanted to play as a kid but as is often the case he was played in defence because he could tackle, but also given license to go forward. When he gets up the wing in front of us he's desperate for balls to be played behind the defence for him to run onto. He has his arm up for it so much its probably dead at the end of the game.

I rate him... I like it when our wingers/left and right sided midfielders actually offer a little bit of protection for the fullbacks... Lennon seems to do it and we look better for it.

I think he would work well as a LM in a 4-3-3 system (my preferred system). Then again I think Baines would too.

I've long been an advocate of this idea @JLBunter

I think he'd do very well out there

My ideal formation and squad would currently be

Robles
Coleman, Jags, Stones, Baines/Garbutt
Gibson, McCarthy
Mirallas, Barkley, Oviedo
Lukaku

I think that would work quite well

We played with Baines at LB and Oviedo at LM before, and it wasn't a disaster or anything

If they worked on it in training, I think it could be very efficent and provide some exciting attacking football down the left flank

2 holding Mikey ? or pushing gibbo on a bit

I can't see garbutt signing but if he did I would see a rotation of baines and garbutt with Oviedo forward on a wing.
I have often had this conversation with my mate. I also feel baines could move into centre midfield leaving Oviedo at left back with garbutt if he signed on the ...

I'd rather him there than Ross or Naismith - but I think the clock is ticking on this lads Everton career. Been here 3 years and just had a few cameo's. Probably best for all concerned if he moves on tbh.
