Player Valuation: £950k
Two star midfielders are sold to a rival team (one of them for free essentially), coach is fired after achieving a champions league place, the owner, Peter Lim, is accused of miss-management by the teams supporters and his daughter tells all of the fans on her Instagram page, "we own the team and can do what we like" to paraphrase and then erased the post.

Now people are talking about raiding the squad for players on the cheap.

Aside of a general discussion of corruption in the sport, am I missing something as to why the owner is destroying his team? Is it just to punish the supporters? A post on r/soccer stated how it was similar to the situation at Malaga.

Appreciate any info on the topic as there doesn't seem to be a thread for this on the board.

A lot of people talk about Italian football being dodgy and suspicious, but personally I feel Spanish football is rife with it too.

You’re going to have to ignore my waffle for a bit here.

Ever heard of Xavi Torres? Antonio Amaya? Two lads who are serving time for match fixing?

Seen the decline of Deportivo or more vocally in the Spanish Press in Malága? Where the sheikh is being threatened with jail for money laundering out the Club, transferring shares to what he thought were “partners”, but in reality have now filed a lawsuit against him?

Well the calamity of what Spanish football is all about doesn’t stop there, it goes well and truly to Valencia.

Peter Lim is absolutely loaded, I think he earned his money in Shares. He’s came in and basically said I want it done my way or no way at all.

It almost smacks of Everton in some ways that’s they splurged on some uninspiring players like Casper Cliessen, who was dropped half way down the season just gone.
Managers come and go, I think he sacked a decent manager when he joined and replaced him with Nuno Espirito Santo

The fans hated him, and they still do. He promised completion of the stadium - been lying baron in wasteland since about 2009 - which he eventually did, but with 21,000 fewer seats.
He’s broke promise after promise in getting the stadium over the line but it’s been over 6 years now, and he’s got nowhere on it.

Bit like Leeds in a way, Valencia went by the wayside cause they threw all their money at CL qualification in the late 00s, they failed, basically bankrupted themselves and rebuilt, but I think he’s just had enough now. Why invest if he’s not getting the support?

I think sacking Marcelino was the last straw, and the fans were fuming about it.
Unless they miraculously do a Leicester this year, then it won’t get better.

So in conclusion, Peter Lim is what is wrong with Valencia.

The fact wealthy people can hold football clubs essentially to ransom like this will never feel right to me, but it is what it I guess

There just isn't enough appetite to change it

It's what's wrong with the world today, a microcosm that's fascinating. You have the players, coaches, stakeholders and owners, and supporters. You really have to strike a balance to get it right to have a strong team.

He invested heavily in indonesia focused on Palm oil and medical stock 20 odd years ago. Made well ovef $1bil from that.

Also he has a stake in Salford FC with the united class of 92 boys.

Valencia and Salford always seemed to be vehicles for him to raise his profile...then of course his daughters comments open the doorway to the mentality of the owners.

Quite amazing whats happening there...illogical.

Sounds just the sort of guy the jawdees need

The club can no longer pay the players. The financial situation looks dire. The leaders offered IOUs that the players logically refused. If no agreement is reached, the team will not be able to play any competition.

Things are looking very bleak over in Valencia, horrible to see

Peter Lim etc al. bankrupted the club and expected the city to bail them out of a massively overrun stadium project. Crap appointments like the Neville brothers didn't help.
