In response to the below.

What would you do if Everton Football Club started banning journalists asking 'public interest questions' or stiffled discussion?

e.g. on: Financial performance.
Club strategy
Player/staff behaviour or conduct

Newcastle then appointed 'official media partner' Trinity Mirror to push favourable club views only in the above case.

I'd complain and boycott them.

I'm not here to support a dictator.

This thread is genuine. There's real concern other clubs are going to implement 'approved media partners' via the premier league. Exclude those in the media that ask probing questions. Like the above.

@GrandOldTeam recently confirmed how big the relationship is between EFC and Trinity Mirror appears.

Its why the importance of INDEPENDENT websites like @GrandOldTeam are so important (and I financially support this one).

Any undue or suspicious media banning that is questionable. Simply to stiffle discussion or public interest questions should be fought to the bitter end.

The first thing the Nazis did was intimidate and control the media.

Wouldn't be the first time would it?

This is being taken to a whole new level.

See what is going on in Newcastle. Its spreading too.

Remember what has been going on with the Echo recently - a paper owned by Trinity Mirror in bed with EFC.

This could ramp it up.

We should have investigative journalism asking where the stadium is? Why is Everton not financially performing outside of tv revenue?

Unfortunately people never see it till it's too late. The same thing is happening today. e.g. Check out how Windows 10 basically takes control of all your personal data. The corporate powers that be have already won so in the case of our small little world regarding a football team I don't think anything could be done. People are too apathetic.

BBC boycotts Glasgow Rangers matches after football club bans its reporter and Times columnist over negative stories
By Adam Shergold for MailOnline15:18 05 Aug 2015, updated 17:11 05 Aug 2015

  • BBC to boycott Rangers matches and press conferences after reporter ban
  • Chris McLaughlin was informed by Ibrox club to stay away
  • Newspaper columnist Graham Spiers has also been barred by Rangers
  • Both led match reports of Gers' 6-2 win at Hibernian on news that three Rangers fans had been arrested for sectarian chanting

This is being taken to a whole new level.

Can you not get a place by FF and spy on them through your curtains, just in case?

The club would be crazy to ban nationals, we get so little coverage as it is, and are clearly seen as a bit of a nothing club in some circles that it'd be suicidal as the coverage would just diminish further

How can it be normal to ban journalists from the football?
So we return to the unhappy state of affairs across English and Scottish football, where some clubs feel it is perfectly normal to ban any journalist guilty of perpetrating journalism the club disapproves of.

I suppose Alex Ferguson was one of the most prominent people in football back in the day to think this was acceptable. He banned theBBC for seven years. It has gone on from there. He was not the first and certainly not the last, as this obnoxious practice appears to be getting ever more widespread, from giant clubs to the minnows north and south of the border.

Can you imagine this happening at a major company holding a press conference? Still less a political party? In fact, can you imagine this happening in any other walk of life in what we choose to call democratic and free Britain?

It makes me wonder if some media outlets have not already been warned.....
