Can see a few feathers being rustled on here by negativity, which somewhat can be understood with promises or expectations that haven't been met but on the other hand are some what ridiculous. Dave.

So i'm interested in what people think would be a big enough improvement on last years calamity in order to be classed as a successful season.

Personally think any improvement this year would be a stepping stone for the years to come once Koeman, Farhad and even Walsh have had a bit of time.

Any improvement...after spending £72M on players you'd accept 10th spot in the league?

Personally I think having the season end in early January already means that there will be no improvement unless we now go on a sensational run that takes us to top 5. And that is highly unlikely.

10th would be a disappointing season so i'm wrong in saying 'any' but a top eight finish this season and then a push for top 5/4 next season if it can be done would be very successful IMO. You're right in saying this season doesn't look like we are going to achieve any accolade but if the summer is done correctly it has to be a good stepping stone to push on next?

Come off it Dave.

Last season, we lost out in two cups and finished 11th...
Currently, we've lost out in two cups and look a more than decent bet to finish at least 4 places higher in 7th.

And we've cleared a lot of deadwood from the playing staff and payroll.

I'm pretty certain that the vast majority of Evertonians will see this as improvement... maybe not as much as we'd have liked, I'll grant you that, but we will go into the summer in a much, much healthier state, and be a more attractive proposition to summer transfer targets.

Judgement is on the final position and if we finish 6th / 7th that's a significant step forward. Add this to recent signings plus Davies and Holgate now regular starters, departure of several average players and the transformation is right slap in front of you. Let's see where we finish to discuss further..

In all seriousness the OP question is a good one in terms of how the fanbase now views matters concerning satisfactory progress. I firmly believe that the last two seasons has provided a big opportunity for an incoming manager to coast to comfortable top ten finishes without too much fuss being made. That is the danger. What we latterly would not accept off Moyes will be seen as achieving success under Koeman or any successor...almost regardless of what he spends.

I dont think that should be the case, but there's obviously an element of relief we aren't on the other side of mid table again and that gives a lot of Evertonians some pride. I understand that but dont think it's healthy. Healthy is to apply pressure on manager and owner at every turn to make incremental improvements year on year. Never stop agitating them in that respect. No free passes for either. That's the only viewpoint to take.
