I loved the 1978 competition and final. I was 17 and the games were on late at night, what a wonderful combination, and those argies knew how to use their old newspapers.

There's bits in the '78 final where the Argentinian outfield players are deliberately catching the ball outside the box and giving away free kicks to waste time. I don't think any of them get booked. You'd never get away with that now

1986 was the best final I've watched, most finals are tense and boring but that one was pretty good.

1966 was obviously the best final for so many reasons as someone stated before. My Dad went to the World Cup Final and the FA Cup Final in 1966, I can only imagine having a Summer like that now!

It was. That's the main reason I don't like it. The final should be competitive in my opinion to truly be considered "great"

Brazil had much better matches in that tournament

Before my times but watched videos of: it's hard to beat 50 and 54 for the underdog value and 66 for the drama and the result.

Here's the thing about everyone pointing to the Final in 1970. The argument is "It's great to see the best team ever beat someone"

Why does that match get precidence? They had some real corkers in that tournament. The match with England is much more exciting and back and forth than the Italy match. They mauled Romania in the group stages too.

To me, A World Cup Final needs to be competitve. The one sided smashings are never that fun. I want two teams going hell for leather and the momentum switching back and forth. It might be an amazing team performance, but it's not a good final. It fails on all the things you want a final to be, In my opinion
