Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
The IW festival near me has recently announced the first two headliners for next summers event: The Police and the Sex Pistols

One group of never has beens from 30 years ago and one group of one hit wonders from 30 years ago.

Severely unimpressed.

Well the Sex Pistols had one album if I recall, hardly enough material to fill a 2 hour set? Besides which, both of your lists don't go further than 1984. Has there really been no one in the 24 intervening years that could headline a rock festival better than this pair?

When you think the 1970 event that apparently inspired this durge had the likes of Hendrix, The Who, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Leonard Cohen, Moody Blues, Joni Mitchell, Sly & The Family Stone et al all pretty much at their peak it hardly compares.

The Sex Pistols released 4 singles and 1 album, that's 1 album, ie a 1 hit wonder :P They had their time and place in the 70's going against the establishment, both politically and musically.

Now, what are they? I expect Jonathon Ross swears more on tv than they ever did, it's hardly rock n roll is it. Can a 'I'm a Celebrity....' contestant be regarded as punk? Please.

(2)The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (26 February 1979) # 7 UK

I make that 2 :D

Singles

I make that 9 :D

i get your point though about the 1970 line up and these 'headline' acts

to quote a favourite...

the sex pistols were a "mustard burp, momentarily tangy and then forgotten in the air"

they had a moment, they werent the clash,

Game Over.

as for the police, they are 'the nuts'.

i'd rather see both above than franz ferdinand and that bunch of [Poor language removed] that sung...

'oh oh oh, america america, oh oh oh, OH, america america, if i say america, people will think this is a good song.... oh oh oh OH, america america'

merde.

Both are class whats wrong bruce...

the sex pistols broke the mould in this country and some would say allowed for a better freedom of expression in clothes words and deeds.

The Police did so many quality songs that they will rocking the place for hours, just pray sting doesn't do any of his yoga songs!!

Btw, you mentioned, hendrix, the who, the doors.... correct me If I'm wrong but aren't most of them dead? hendrix is, the drummer and bassist from the who are dead and isn't the lead (and basically The doors) of the doors dead too?

Sure, most of those I mentioned are dead. Probably a good thing, stops then reforming for cash in tours when they're grandads. How can Lydon be punk though really? Reality tv and running a property company? I'm about as punk as he is. Like I said, they both had their moment and did ok in their moment, as we said with Howie, you should never go back. Leave these pair in the 70's where they belong and go with some new acts.

Can't agree with that idea Bruce, some music stands the test of time and people would still love to see the actual people playing it, even though they have other jobs and stuff.

For example. I saw the original Black Sabbath line up a few years ago, ozzy has been in a reality tv show.... but that didn't take away anything from the performance, it was legendary!
Sometimes these old bands are just better than the new ones.

Who would you like to see?

Ah, well that's the thing, we always seem to miss a trick.

Arcade Fire were touring last year and we missed out on them, they went on to be the best act at Glastonbury.

This year Radiohead are touring and they were rumoured for the Saturday slot but instead we have a band who's entire style of music is rooted in a time that is no longer relevant. How they sing about being anti-establishment when so many of them are establishment now? Sure, put them on the bill, but headlining the main night of what was voted last year as the best UK festival. Please. It's like bringing Guns n Roses back together, they were great in their time but would be awful now. I know there are plenty of wealthy baby boomers out there but is that really the target market for festivals now?

I say again, the original festival, that put the IW name on the map, had the best bands in the world at their peak, not bands that havn't had an LP in 30 years!
