What teams do you support?

My mum went to NY in 2001 (I know, missed it by about about 2 weeks I think) and bought me back some Mets merch so I like them. Although I've never watched a baseball match in my life. But yeah, go Mets ffs!

I see the Mets as a bit like Everton.

Occasionally (very) awesome but generally average with another team in the City who have a load of glory hunters supporting them and most people hate.

It's great to hear that the Mets have some support in the UK. When I used to live in Germany, I only saw Yankees and Red Sox merch so wear that Mets gear proudly! There are definitely some parallells between Everton and the Mets; share a city with teams that have boatloads of gloryhunters, tremendous success in the mid-1980s that should have continued for much longer (the way Everton supporters speak of 1985 is eerily similar to 1986 for Mets fans including the what-ifs of post-Heysel/drug abuse of star players on the Mets), and the blue, can't forget the blue. Unfortunately, there is also the whiff of Newcastle around the Mets with their tendency to sign big-names with aging bodies for large contracts with limited success and being in the vanguard with bringing in international talent. For the Mets, they were quite early in their pursuit of Latin ballplayers.

And the Mets payroll is typically one of the highest...

Re: Everton MLB comparisons

Prior to 2004, the Red Sox were the most similar. Now they Red Sox are more like Chelsea, or something. The Mets remind me of Man City. The second best team in a city with the best team in the planet, and they spend a lot of money to play that role.

I don't like this drawing parallels with Yankees to Liverpool. The Redsox are Liverpool. We like the yankees because they stop the redsox from winning stuff mostly.
Are the Marlins Wigan?

Are the Marlins from a bygone age ?

Wigan being compared to baseball, there's a 1st. You'd have to find a team from a town where nobody gives a stuiff about them 'cos they are all into the sport the other team in the town plays. Or the city that consumes the most pie.

You guys need to get over the fact a Red Sox owner bought Liverpool. I won't ever pull for the Yankees, I mean over my dead body it won't happen. Sox fan for life, and that has nothing to do with my Everton fandom. Totally different leagues, totally different countries. And regardless, I don't even really like Henry that much.

Aren't the Yankees linked with ushoited in some way ? this was in 2001 though

Manchester United's share price rocketed today ahead of the club revealing its marketing deal with the New York Yankees baseball team.

Manchester United's share price rocketed today ahead of the club revealing its marketing deal with the New York Yankees baseball team.

Old Trafford bosses will announce the deal, which brings together the world's richest soccer and baseball clubs, later today.

The joint agreement will see the formation of a marketing 'superclub' in which both clubs will sell themselves to potential sponsors and TV networks.

The Red Devils' share price rose 9 percent to 233.5p ahead of the official announcement, valuing the club at just over £600 million.

Yes, they have a deal together.

It's sports business, and from totally different continents. Nothing to base who you pull for on it. Henry will eventually sell Liverpool anyway. Possibly the Red Sox after last season.

I am no expert but I was under the impression nobody gave two about the Marlins.
