What it means for us.

Stagnificent

Player Valuation: £25k
Hi, Stags fan here. Can't wait for the big game tomorrow. It's a huge occasion for us.

- 2nd biggest crowd in our history.
- biggest away crowd (apart from finals) in my lifetime - maybe ever, not sure.
- our first visit to your lovely new ground.
- a rare match against Premier League opposition
- will earn us around £250k, the price of a decent striker at our level (so the equivalent of about £40m to you!)

To give you some background - we're a small Midlands club that has only ever played in Tier 2 of the pyramid for a solitary season in the 70s. We average around 7/8000 at home, but this is a relatively new and high level of support, relative to our historic numbers. We're on an upward trajectory, with an owner who genuinely cares and is willing to sensibly spend money on infrastructure and gradually improve all areas. In Nigel Clough, we have about as good a manager as we could hope for. He's the 4th longest serving manager in England and will probably become our longest ever serving manager in the next couple of seasons.

6000 of us will be making the trip tomorrow, which has surprised me tbh. We travel very well for a club our size, averaging over 1000 in League One (more than most of the ex-Prem clubs in that league), but to take this many across the country on a Wednesday night, is phenomenal. You'll hear us loud and clear.

Best of luck in your new ground. I hope it brings you lots of happy memories and becomes the home that Goodison was to you. I'm delighted that we are an early part of its history, under the lights for the first time. Hope to chat to some of your fans pre/post match. Up the Stags! 💛🩵

Enjoy it. Our biggest ever win was 11-2, just thought I'd mention it.

Next year or two will be filled with 'firsts', great that Mansfield will be one of the very early ones. Hope your fans really enjoy the tie (to an extent!), welcome to the future of football in Liverpool.

Hope you all have a boss day out mate. This is what cups should be about, giving everyone new great experiences and helping teams in div 1 and below get a decent payday.

I went to a few mansfield games when i lived in sandiacre for a bit as missed going the footy and enjoyed myself, proper loyal hardcore fan base.

I was on your forum (stagsnet) a few days ago browsing the 2nd round thread, made me like your club even more.

Hope everton win like but hope you all have an amazing time

Nice one mate. Have a good time. Take in some of the city centre pubs beforehand. In Dale St for example.

Hope you enjoy the game and our City, mate. If you take any photos etc. it would be great if you could post some in the thread below so we can get the away support view of the occasion/stadium. Safe travels ;)

Nigel Clough, eh?

I was feeling all warm and fuzzy reading that post until I saw that name. The story writes itself, doesn't it...

Putting my paranoia aside, I hope Mansfield fans have a fantastic night, put it up to us, and lose 1-0.

Why 1-0? Well, first of all, I don't think it's a given that Everton win. We have form for taking this competition and lower league sides for granted. Secondly, if we do give the competition and opposition the respect they both deserve, I hate it when giants crush minnows. It does nobody any favours, gives the big boys a false sense of themselves and the minnows a black eye that nobody can be proud of. Thirdly, the greatest Everton sides in history often struggled against so-called "minnows". For example, UCD in 1984. It did us no harm to scrape through by the width of a crossbar and the UCD boys still talk about it - as do our legends - to this day. I like these games to be remembered warmly (with the underdogs proud and unbowed and us winning, naturally).

So, have a great trip, put up a blinding fight, and succumb bravely (if we are good enough to force that outcome).

I suspect it'll be a tighter game than some might think...
