What is the "System" ?

I think the difference is now we have players who can interchange, can mix it up by playing good football and be confident in each other - whilst also being able to sit back and defend as a unit when we need to.

Moyes will want us to attack properly this year, and so far it has shown. It has also shown in his signings too.

The system keeps us subjugated. We need to rise up against the system!

In all seriousness, Moyes has a system based on the players ability in each position. The only real familiar trait I can see in Moyes' style is frequent interchanging of passing in the opponents corners. He loves that more than he loves Phil Neville. He's been working on that for years waiting for someone like Jelavic to come along and take advantage of defences getting sucked into it.

We switch between 4-5-1 and 4-4-2 all the time yet everyone in the media thinks we only play a defensive 4-5-1. DM got the hump last year when asked why he didn't play two up front and quite correctly pointed out that Cahill was playing furthest forward throughout the game.

DM is very keen on getting players ultra fit and with Cahill and now Felli (both will run all game) they would happily drop deep into a midfield 5 when we lose the ball and push beyond the front man when we attack. Its a fluid system that means we are rarely outnumbered in midfield and have a decent go forward. Players should always be moving to fill gaps in defence and find space going forward.

Rigid sytems are for the days when players would go on the ale all day after training and get tired after 70 mins of a match. These days they can run for hours so systems can be more flexible.

I was always of the opinion that Arteta distracted the likes of Felli, particularly Osman and the midfield in general from playing the game / style we play now.

Would Arteta be able to play in the system that we play now ? would he improve on what we have now ?
