WHAT IS A P45U

Hi people,quick question,what is a P45U,in feb i was sent a letter saying i owe £438 for the tax year 2011-2012 based on my work earning's and my JSA for the year 11-12 [on jsa for the 1st 6 weeks of the 2011-2012 tax year] but the inland revenue had me as been on jsa for 38 weeks [not the 6 i was] earning £2497 instead of the £460 i ACTUALLY earned due to what they said was the dole not saying to them that i had left the dole to go to full time work,i sent the P60 with the £460 jsa figure on it and even the p45 part 1A [my own part] with the figure on-as off course you give other parts to job,yet they have sent a letter back saying they want the P45U before they check it despite sending the 2 original forms ive said,

They will owe me when they do it right but in the meantime i will be taxed a lot more to claim the money back they say i owe despite not owing it]

Here's something of an explanation of it mate.

A P45U is a P45 issued by Jobcentre Plus. It should contain the correct amount of JSA you received while you were claiming. You should have been sent one when you signed off - if not get on to them asap as the tax year ends this week and they only issue them for the current tax year.

Phoned inland revenue which the letter was from to make certain what it was,they told me i needed the p45u from my job centre [which i had a 50/50 feeling i had to do but wanted to make sure with this "new thread",the jobcentre [local one] give me a JSA/ESV quires number which i phoned up and ask same thing need the p45u

-Got through on quires no after 25 min wait and the woman was the most awkward woman and unhelpful person i could ever ask for-she didnt know what a p45u was/ she was puffing down the phone,getting a cob on,getting angry etc,i asked for the TAX YEAR april 11-april 12 jsa figure i needed [the 1st 6 weeks [£460] of the 2011 tax year i was on it, till i signed off may 23rd]. [as in april 5th to may 23rd]


as we all know the tax year goes april to april-the figure [£460] on a headed letter was what i needed was on there cp, but she keep telling me i needed it from dec 23 2010 [signed on then after earlier job ended]-may 23rd 2011 thus going through 2 SEP TAX YEARS instead of adding the dec 10 to april 5th 2011 figure to the 2010 P60-

THEN BEGINNING THE NEW 2011-2012 YEAR FROM 6TH APRIL 2011 TILL I SIGNED OFF 23RD MAY 2011,she has sent a letter with the figure 460 on it supposedly now with the right year i hope [as she was saying i need 09-2010 or 2010 to 2011][ and im hoping thats all shes added and has not included a year i dont want or need making it look like i got more jsa in the tax year april 11-april 12 than i actually did

Ringmaster, can't you go to the place you signed on and they are obliged to give you a P45U, if they have already issued one and you have not received it ask for a letter stating any JSA received, and the dates you received it, they can print it their and then.

A P45U is the equivalent of an employment P45. Take the above from a man definitely in the know.
